    Posted: 06/06/2024 at 6:40am
I bought one Donic Desto F3 Big Slam and I do not see anything unusual on the packing, but when I opened it, on the rubber it read "Donic Desto F3" and that is all, the word "Big Slam" is not available.
So I wonder if the rubber is Desto F3 or Desto F3 Big Slam ?
I checked my old Donic Blue Fire Big Slam and it can be seen the complete description on the rubber : "Donic Blue Fire Big Slam"
I am thinking to return the rubber to the seller, because I want the F3 Big Slam and not the F3.
Anyone can clarify this ? Thanks

it's because imo if they add the big slam word in the rubber, they might pay for another license.

I think it is confusing, because there is also the normal Desto F3, besides Desto F3 Big Slam. If the words "Big Slam" is not shown, then we will not know (if it is already without the packing) which one is the "Desto F3" and which one is "Desto F3 Big Slam", whilst the "Big Slam" version is supposed to be softer.
I will wait for the reply from the shop who sold me the rubber, and after that I will try to check another shop to verify.

Did it say "big slam" on the package?
If you check the ITTF LARC, you'll see only one Desto F3, there is no "Big Slam" version. This means the topsheet will be the same for both, but the sponge is different. This is quite a common practice to avoid doubling up on ITTF fees.
The way I see it, is if it has "Big Slam" on the package, there's no reason to believe they sent you the wrong rubber.

I sent an e-mail to Donic and got following reply :
Desto F3 and F3 Big Slam have the same topsheet and therefore only one ITTF approval which is valid for both rubbers. The difference between these 2 rubbers is the sponge, which is much softer for the rubber Desto F3 Big Slam and has another colour than F3 rubber.
My supplier from the shop informed me that F3 has yellow colour sponge whilst F3 Big Slam has orange colour sponge. However from the look of the topsheet only, we cannot tell which one is which.

Yes that sounds right.

I just checked a sheet of F3 BS, and the sponge is indeed orange. I don't have a sheet of the old F3 to see if the sponge is yellow.
Is the sponge orange on yours?

My rubber is orange, so it confirms that the shop gave me the correct one.

I played with Desto F3 Big Slam many years ago and I don't ever remember it saying Big Slam. I'm surprised you can still buy it. Desto F3 was my favorite rubber as it was very soft and it had very good dwell time on my BH. The only problem I found was that it only lasted a couple of months. I had the same problem with the Big Slam as well.
Best of luck

of course, I'm sorry, I read too fast and saw the 'you' as addressing to me and Yogi. You are an ancient here and I should have known you could not overlook this.

Thank you Dave, and believe it or not, I am not using the rubber. I chose to buy the rubber because according to Revspin it has the softest sponge (I was looking for one softer than Coppa X3), and I want to use it as : guess what ? Finger Pad.
I cut the rubber approximately 3x7 cm and glue it at the backhand side of my Chinese Penhold (Traditional Chinese Penhold) where my middle finger will rest on it. I tried quite several rubbers that I have, and this one is the best to be paired with Rasanter C48 on the forehand.
On my second Viscaria Super, the best (for me) is Donic Coppa JO Gold, paired with Rasanter C 53.
Please do not get me wrong, this is the first intact rubber that I cut for the finger pad, The rest came from what is left after I cut the rubber for the forehand side.
I wonder if I am the only one doing this kind of thingBig smile
