Muahahahaha ! Werner Schlager had beaten the ... out of Bastian Steger ! Lovely match ! Even though, Schlager wasn't on the top form, not like in Bercy 2003 :(

Smirnov's seems to be using Tenergy. At least the sponge looks like it. Normally he should be using a Boost series rubber since he's Stiga sponsored.

That's a match I'd love to see.

I'm currently watching Schlager vs. Steger, and I see that Robert Gardos is acting coach. Shocked

Maybe that's a sign of things to come.

Semifinals have started. The first match could take a while...

Edit: this will go to expedite very early, both are just pushing with no intention of attacking a single ball!

Wow, 4-4 in the first and it's expedite - that might be a record...

Two defensive players, eh? This might take a while. Tongue

Expedite is a good system for these cases, I like it.

This glue ban had got to be frustrating for the pro players who spent almost all of their career in the glue era.  I just watched the Oh Sang Eun/Mizutani match and I have never hear Oh actually grunt and put so much effort into shots until this match.

The top players are still the top players. Think about the 2005 World Championships and all the second round upsets.....ie...in the so called glue era. Ryu lost to Danny Heister......Chuan lost to a very young Mizutani, Schlager lost to He Zhi Wen.....a very young Bastain Steger beat Saive and we all know about Wang Hao and Hao Shuai losing to Michael Maze in later rounds. People want to act like the top players NEVER lost during the glue era. All of the sudden, Oh Sang Eun is using more effort and energy to play table tennis? I doubt it. He just literally walked right over Yoshida 4-0.......while puting so much effort into his shots.....lol.

Schlager didn't have Gardos around this time, that's why...

Seriously, Baum seems to be having his international breakthrough finally (he was world junior champ a few years ago). He'll be top 50 after this tournament, good for him.

Oh looked awfully strong and should win the final.

Well, I have to say that I'm really sad that Schlager lost but he didn't play at his top form, I'm really disappointed when I see Schlager playing a slow game, not aggressive anymore, no more reverse pendulum, no more tricky serves ( or still but very little ).How can you win any title with this performance, Schlager ?

quoting theman

"not worried about patrick baum, hes yet to break the top 100, and hes around the same age as dima?
that win in 05 worlds junior, but to make that step from junior to senior competition, is BIG,

but dima took that step VERY WELL, consistent quarter and semi final appearnaces in pro tour events,

but baum? i dunno"

"other than timo sammy who were obvioulsy great juniors in their time, dima is like the next young gun in the future.

What about PATRICK BAUM? 05 world junior champ, yet what happened to him? hes still on the same level and hasnt progressed at all..."

"i dont think patrick baum will get far imo. that win in 05 junior worlds was great, i thought he would go far, but three yrs into the senior game, hes yet to break the top 100"

"forget suss or patirck baum, they never really made it at international level.

steger is a very gơd stable player, at least for team events."

"patrick Baum! so random, hes never made it ever in the senior rankings."

"they dont have a very gơd junior program to replace the swedish gods.
it appears germany is the only country churning out gơd young players...

save patrick baum, that guy never made it to the senior level, heck hes still outside top 100!"

No one really cares about U21. Seriously, who even watches it? It's sort of like the "hey, you're not really good enough to do well with the real players, so you play in U21". This is not the case with Yu Meng Yu, as she is top 40, but I don't understand why she continues to play in it. None of the Chinese at younger ages even play in it because it's a joke!
