Subject: Best FH rubber for a Clipper Wood!
Date Posted: 01/01/2012 at 7:08pm
In China I used a National Team H3 on my Clipper Wood (82g), but that was CPEN. I'm using a modified Shakehand style at present and wonder what you guys feel is the best complimentary rubber for the Clipper. I tried the H3 and I had no control. I tried the Sriver G2 FX, but at 1.9 I was all over the place and my blocking was terrible.

Any suggestions?

I should mention . . . I'm mostly a power blocker and smasher with a loop drive that is more of a drive than a loop. :-).

Tommy, give Donic Barracuda a try. If your using a grip similar to the one you were using when we played, Barracuda should compliment your clipper fairly well.

I don't think you can you can have much more in terms of control than g2fx 1.9

Oh Wonderful Oracle, I clearly have lots of control as I am refraining form going off on you for your kindhearted comment, which came on your whopping 3rd posting.

There is a big difference between playing an all out attack CPEN game and a blocking game using SHAKEHAND. The same set-up will yield different results as a result of a different grip and totally different playing style. Some rubbers need more of an active stroke for control, whilst others are more controllable passively, i.e. a pull back block.

If only post count meant anything in real tt LOLThis account was made strictly for helping my friend sell his equipment.

Many great penholders and shakehanders from China have used Clipper + H3, once again, it's you that lacks the control.

Where can I get the best deal on a sheet? I'm actually using something between Seemiller and Shake at the moment. I wish I could twist my blade a few degrees to acquire the perfect angle.

for a blocking game, I really like Acuda S3 on a clipper.

Feels really crisp and precise.

The rubbers medium soft sponge and high throw lets you place your blocks safely with good pace and spin; you can back people off the table with this setup.

I Acuda S3 is more forgiving than G2FX 1.9 and has higher spin potential.

But because of the high throw, I wouldn't recommend it if you want to block short.

Go ahead and sell circles around me, see how much profit you can get selling off used equipment, while my friend just sells an old blade or two. I know who you are, I couldn't care less to be very honest, I have no desire for a few MyTT.net fanboys. Well, I felt that you misinterpreted my original post, I did not mean to troll/flame about your control, I was simply trying to suggest maybe it was not the racket; however, I guess it didn't come across that way, and you assumed it to be a troll/flame post. Then the ensuing throwing of mud ensued, I guess I should be more clear in my posts in the future since things can come across inaccurately by text only Ouch

I agree . . . Oracle . . . let's make peace. I would rather not fight.

I could adjust and use my H3 National, but I'm hoping for something that's a more natural fit for the Clipper and my playing style. If I were a all out looper it would be a different story. I trained for over a year with a 2700+ level player, who used H3. Hookshot trained with another high level player, who used H3 on a Clipper. I hardly have any muscle on my playing side. I'm lucky I can power block. I need a combination that suits my play. I don't even know if the Clipper is going to work, but I'm hopeful there is a complimentary rubber for that blade+my style of play. Peace.

Well, I can't speak for the Clipper, but I can say for sure Acuda S1 is definitely solid for the game you describe. Very solid on blocks and a flatter style offensive game, yet still solid for loops. Also, rather cheap considering prices these days, I'd suggest giving it a shot.

I used to be skeptical about Donic. But now am a fan. Will be trying out Acuda S2 on my forehand shortly. I just want to tone it down from the speedy Acuda S1.

After I converted to cpen, It became very difficult to find rubbers for my Clippers. BH is fine with Mars 2, but FH is very requiring. For the very fast and very hard CR WRB I use LKT Rapid Soft, for Wood - Moon Pro. For the thinner clipper homologs Like M-6 or MC-3 I prefer H2.

P.S. Joola Topspin fits everywhere.

Good luck with your quest!

May be H2? The neo or H2p. I don't think there is a national version but it's got lower throw for drive and block.

Tommy,

Historically, H3 has been the FH rubber most often paired with Stiga's Clipper series for Asian players, if it's not working for you, Donic Barracuda is a solid fast blocking rubber that works for your stroke/grip style. I rarely endorse any non chinese rubbers for the FH, but I think it will be suitable for you.

If you're in the USA, Paddle Palace is a good place to get it, or I can get it for you at a discounted price. If you're in China, just go to the same guy who got you the H3 National, and he should be able to get you a the Barracuda, (HongKong donic distributor has lower prices than USA)

he's using sriver g2fx 1.9.
barracuda, acuda, any of those doesn't have more control than his current rubber.
I would advise you this

http://ttnpp.com/shop/dhs-skyline-tg-3-blue-sponge-special-version-21-sponge-black-p-137.html?zenid=ab7rg6ntrl5fpefgpfjktivd51 - http://ttnpp.com/shop/dhs-skyline-tg-3-blue-sponge-special-version-21-sponge-black-p-137.html?zenid=ab7rg6ntrl5fpefgpfjktivd51

it's a chinese style rubber but not so dead as classic rubbers or even h3neo.

Have you tried Spinart, it's dam hard (sponge) but if you've been playing CPen, you should have the stroke to compress it if needed.

Thanks Guys. I thought for sure I'd be fine with the H3 on there, but it didn't feel right . . . I was all over the place. Then I tried the Butterfly and it just seemed to lack something . . . maybe too thin a sponge . . . I just don't know. In my mind it was going to work but in reality . . . no! I have been using a custom Borko blade with a Sriver G2FX 2.1 and it's great so I know I still have skills there. I just don't have the feel for anything on the Clipper . . . YET! i appreciate all the advice. I wish I didn't have to spend $50 to experiment, but . . .
I'm in Arizona until August, and then back to China. I have a lot of time to get in playing and EJ shape, but time goes fast.

I have a Vega Pro (Mint), Thor's (great) and Acuda S1 (good), all red, 2.x if you are interested trying it as FH for your Clipper. Both are shakehand cut. You know, boost the cake sponge, these rubbers turn from great to awesome. Used rubbers are great as long as they work. :-)

Clipper is a great blade but rubber matching it can be a bit of a search. My picks for clipper are regular Bryce, Yasaka Extend HS, H3 Neo, Moon, or yes even regular Sriver. I have heard that Stiga Boost tc also paires well with clipper but I haven't tried that one. Good luck I'm sure you will find the perfect one for you.

agrit is a great rubber to serv, to play at mid distance, to block, to loop and conterloop...

i usually don't enjoy to loop coz it is not my style.
but i had a lot of fun to play at mid distance with it!
loops and even defense (cut and high balls)

agrit is the best rubber i have tested in 2011.

Yes, I know this thread is a bit old. But, I'm wondering about the final result of this thread. On a whim, I picked up a Stiga Clipper Wood a few days ago. I put Baracuda and Dignics on it, but the Baracuda actually feels a little bit too firm for me on the Clipper. What rubber did you end up going with for your Clipper? Are you still using the Clipper? I'm thinking about getting something slightly softer. Any suggestions?
