Well technically medium pips don't exist... they don't identify them on the ITTF LARC.

So does the ITTF call them "long" or just "out"? I think there is general consensus that rubber like 729's 563, gambler peacekeeper, and dawei 388-C, TSP P2 are medium pips.

To me the key is do the pips bend when you press them with your fingers or not.

The ITTF distinguishes between short pips (out) and long pips (long). So medium pips and half long pips are technically a matter of opinion. Medium pips lean on the side of short pips and are usually offensive (Victas VO 101, Friendship 563, etc). Half long pips lean on the side of long pips and are usually defensive, (Nittaku Pimplemini, Nittaku Wallest, etc). I would say most medium pips don't have much flexibility in their pips while half long pips do. That much is simply my opinion though.

Out of the package, I would say that VO 101 is probably the fastest medium pips because of its glue effect but if you tune 563 with a good booster or especially with speed glue then that will be faster.
