Berkeley doctor posted some stuff for sale and I decided to buy a couple blades and rubbers from him for our club to use as loaner rackets. Sales thread here: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=40123&KW=&title=price-reduction-keyshot-light-and-cheap-gearI asked him from the start for pics and he resisted and said : I used the jpen for one 3 hr session. No marks or anything on it. The Yinhe cpen is in very good condition. I sealed it with varnish to prevent chipping. It has ~10-15 hrs of play on it. I don't have pics, but I would like to if it is only really necessary. Both of these blades don't have any chips or anything on them. Flawless. Kevin I then asked about the rubbers and if they fit correctly and not damaged, etc. He then replied and said: "The rubbers fit snuggly. There are not marks or cuts, or rips or any blemishes." After going back and fourth a few times I decided to make the purchase without pics since it was only $40 for everything. Then he said he would ship them out the next day or the following day. After a few days past I asked for the tracking number (that I requested he get when shipping) he replied they had been sent out on Friday but wasn’t sure if flat rate priority came with tracking. After I questioned him again about it he replied back on Monday saying he had went back to the PO and had a friend get the package and he “re-sent” the package now with tracking. I called BS on this little story of his and he finally admitted he lied about shipping it out on Friday and did just get it shipped out on that Monday with tracking. I get the package today and the rubbers look like they were cut with a butter knife. They did not fit properly and the edges were all chewed up and jagged. After I contacted him about this he replied by saying the following. i cut those rubbers myself, i think they arent that bad and they fit okay, if you don't like them im sorry, maybe should have asked for pictures of something beforehand, because those both are definitely playable rackets. I wish I never would have sold them to you, this is way too much hassle for $40. The reason I sell these are to let other people try used equipment for a REALLY CHEAP price compared to the original cost. I don't care if I get $40 I make more than enough salary per year for my lifestyle. You understood these were used rubbers and thats what ya got. I think they fit perfectly fine and are completely acceptable under USATT sanctioned tournaments. Please dont PM again. Kevin I told him the $40 had no bearing on my gripes. I expect to get what I am being sold to be like what someone says it is. Live and learn to get pics. Are the rubbers "playable"? Yes but not in the condition or fit to blade like I was told. For $40 did I expect perfection or like new? No, but I expecting it to be like he said... I know he sold a bunch of other stuff in the same thread so I hope everyone else gets what they were expecting and get it in a timely manner with no BS games and lies.
Mods if this needs to be moved to a different section feel free to move.

Well, firstly, pictures of the rubbers would help, to see by an outside definition if they are "playable" or legal or "fit snugly". Preferably have them sitting on the blade rolled out or such so we can see. Some people have very different definitions of a good clean cut or fit. I personally will remove and reglue a rubber several times to get it fitting right and hate seeing wood on the edges, but that's just me.
Also which specific rubbers and blades would help as well, so we can compare them to the prices to see if there is either dishonesty or a ripoff depending on claimed state vs actual state and value vs cost.

Jonan,
I have already taken the rubbers off and replaced them with new rubbers I had already. I can post some pics if that helps. Here is my thing about this whole deal is he lied about not only the shipping situtaion with some crazy story about a friend that worked at the PO and he "re-shipped" the package he lied about the rubber and the fit. Notice he first said "The rubbers fit snuggly. There are not marks or cuts, or rips or any blemishes". Then after I questioned him about them not being what he said he then said "i think they arent that bad and they fit okay". He should have said that from the start about the rubbers along with they are not cut just perfect but are good enough for and "completely acceptable under USATT sanctioned tournaments".
Do I think I was "ripped off" no. I think I was lied to about the fit and finish of the rubbers and I know he lied about the shipping situtaion because he admitted that. Like I said it is not about the cost of the item it is the fact he did not shoot me stright on many fronts. Then he wants to get arrogant with his statment of "I don't care if I get $40 I make more than enough salary per year for my lifestyle."
Like I said I will always get pics from the start on any transaction but for some reason this time I did not and let it pass. Probably because of the price more so than anything. However I dont care if I was paying $20 for everything it was not as he stated which is the point of the post it si not about "value" vs cost or anything of that nature.
If you have access to our PMs you are free to look at the entire situation from start to finish including his great story about his "buddy" at the PO that I called him out on and then he admitted he lied.
I am like you and prefer a nice edge and good fit with rubbers. Beacuse these were J-pen and Cpen blades I know they are a little specific to cut and that is why I asked him about the fit.
Keep in mind I just bought two Tenergy rubbers from a member here that by no means fit perfect or cut perfect but I got a pic and they were exactly as stated so no complaints from me because I got what I was told. Edited by RJTT - 03/02/2011 at 11:44pm |

So this is more a customer service issue as opposed to defective product issue?
You are upset that he lied about when he shipped it and you feel he was not empathetic about your different definitions of a rubber fitting?

My thing is he lied about a few things during the transaction or held important information that may effected my decission buying. Which if I had known the fit and rough cut of the rubbers I would have just bought the blades and no rubber. In the end that is what I did because I put new rubbers on them and have two usless rubbers (to me anyway). So in the end I paid $40.00 for two blades and one salvagable rubber that I was able to use.
Here is the PM's about the shipping situation you may find comical. (RJTT)Did you send the blades and what is the tracking #? (berkeleydoctor) Yep blades sent out on Friday afternoon. Tracking number? I'm not sure if that comes with flat rate priority. Kevin (RJTT) You said they were going out on Wed or Thursday? If you were shipping any different you should have said. I also told you from the start that I wanted tracking on the package, I said "tracking" on a few different PM's. No it does not come with Flat Rate you have to ask for it extra and it cost like $0.50 for it. Now if the package gets "lost" or anything else we cant track it to see what happen..... (berkeleydoctor) I felt bad for not getting the tracking number after you paid $10 for shipping, so I talked to my friend who works at the post office. The package was still in processing there so I re-sent it today with tracking. Here is the number: 0310 2010 0000 1097 5157 Enjoy Kevin (RJTT) You first said you were shipping out on Wed. or Thursday of last week. Then you said you shipped out on Friday "flat rate Priority". Here is my guess... You didnt send it out on Friday like you said either. Why do I know this? Because once you drop a package off to be shipped out Priority mail it does not sit in the same Post Office from Friday to Monday "processing". It goes out that night to be sorted and sent to the necessary Post Offices for delivery. Even if you dropped it off on Friday late it would have went out first thing Saturday to be sorted and sent. All Priority mail is delivered within 3-4 days after drop off. Even during Christmas it is around that time. If it was still "processing" at the same PO you dropped it off at today then it would have been impossible for it to get to me in the 3-4 day window which would have been today or no later than tomorrow. How do I know this? I am good friends with the Post Master in my town and I have shipped thousands of packages and know the ins and outs of the shipping process. Call me crazy but I am willing to bet the last dollar in my pocket it this whole thing happen the way I just said.... I suggest in the future you A. Shot people straight when you are going to ship. B. If you cant ship when you said shot people straight on the delay and appoligize. Crap happens and people get busy and cant get a package out, so no big deal but be straight up with folks. I may have needed those blades for something like a clinic at our club or something but would have not gotten them when I needed them. Lucikly this time it is no big deal.. Robert (berkeleydoctor) I apologize, crazy sh*t did happen in my life and I couldn't mail them out on time. Either way I felt people needed to know.... Edited by RJTT - 03/02/2011 at 11:46pm |

I think we can all agree that when doing business, honesty is the best policy over "white lies" like if you shipped it Monday or Friday, and pictures first for any used rubbers is a good policy. I got burned once buying used off of here, the rubbers were about an inch too small for even my smallest blade and were unusable for me, it's sad, but happens when you play $5< for a used rubber and don't get pics first.

I dealt with Berleydoctor before. He seemed very resonable.
It seems to me that you have been angry about his lying on shipping time. I am agree that you have the right reason to be angy.
But take a step back, the transaction is not quite terrible as you put on the title. You received your product within reasonable time. In addition, he had admitted mistake and apologized to you.
I suggest that you should calm down. If you are ok with the product, then just let it go. Next time, don't deal with Berkeleydoctor if you are not happy with his service.

Sounds to me like it's a difference of opinion of the condition of the rubbers... The posting issue is seperate to this. Without seeing the pictures of the rubbers we can't offer our opinion. I agree though that the price should not matter, and a cheap price does not justify an inaccurate description. Was the blade in the condition described?
BTW I don't know about you guys, but I don't like quoting a PM from another member in the open forum... In my view they should remain private, which is why they're called "Private Message". That's just my opinion of course... I do think this should be moved to the Buy & sell feedback section. |

Ok, I moved it over to the feedback section of For Sale, what this boils down to seems to be purposeful miscommunication (or by some lies or white lies) by the seller on when it was shipped and then some disagreement over the condition of the rubber. Which in the end, boils down to poor feedback, as the buyer agreeing that he didn't get pictures before hand and knew it was used and didn't feel it wasn't a ripoff or a question of value.

Hey, if you guys dont think it is worth me "fussing" over or posting a thread about it then feel free to delete. Maybe it is just me but a mans word means something to me. Why lie about and come up with a "story" over something as simple as a slight delay in shipping.
The blades were fine however not exactly like he stated. He said the Jpen was "perfect" but it is not. It has a few dents on the black side that dosent really matter. Like I said I was not expecting perfection just what I was told.
I posted the PM's because I think they are relavant to this point I was making. Me posting them did not provide anything personal in any way. They only gave exact details of what I had already stated he had done, so their was no confussion or misunderstanding as to what I was explaining.
Either way, leave it up as a lesson to all or delete...

No, no, if all we had was positive feedback and any negative was deleted, then feedback would be pointless, it would be like ebay before they didn't allow sellers to return any negative feedback with more negative feedback.
But until anything else comes up from the other side, it appears this issue should be put to rest.
