Table tennis without affirmative action is so refreshing. Diaz is the only one who will be left out, if she fails to defend her title at the upcoming Pan-AM TTC 2023. She and Harimoto will likely fight for the last spot.

No more 2 candidates per country in the world cup??
Wow, that's interesting news.
Auspicious that this new turn is starting in Japan.

NER has never applied to WTT Finals (known as WTT Cup Finals in 2021 and 2022).

There is no NER for the WTT Finals.

This is the Grand Tour final equivalent not the World Cup equivalent.

The "WTT Handbook (WTT Series & Feeder Series) 2023 says:
“b. WTT Finals
• Singles:
Players shall be added automatically to the event entry list by WTT based on the respective ITTF TTWR
for singles’ events published after the end of the last event before the WTT Finals.“

I would appreciate it if someone could confirm whether the ITTF TTWR used for the WTT Finals 2023 is from week #45 (November 7) or not. Thank you in advance.

The reason I'm asking this question is that I'm uncertain about which event was the last WTT.

Thank you very much for the link, Kappa. I was not familiar with the site. After reviewing the pages, I realized there were some errors in my data.

I have deleted the table and the graph I posted.

Good prize money and ranking points for this tournament:

Minimum of $12,000 in singles and $3,000 in doubles.

The ranking points helps the players build a cushion to maintain their ranking so it's a pretty big deal to make the WTT Finals.

I’m not updated on this but why isn’t Hirano in it? Thank you.

She was #16 going into Frankfurt, but Joo Cheonhui's good performance pushed her out of the race.  The hope was that she would be able to make up the difference between her and #16 Zhang Rui (10 pts) at the Mixed Teams Event, but it looks like the points would not count towards the race since it's run by ITTF and not the WTT.

The most important thing for Hirano is the Paris 2024 race.  But making the WTT Finals would have been nice because it gives the 16 entrants a built in ranking pts advantage for a year which could help in seeding.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I hope she does well at the remaining Paris point Japan tournaments including the one that is still going on!
