Hey I was just wondering.. has anyone seen one of the 09 hurricane king's out yet? It's supposed to be thicker, and more powerful, and I'm probably going to get one.
Let me know.

well a lot of people say that it is over priced, over rated, and not that great. idk what they play with.. but my HK is the best feeling blade I've ever played with. It is one of those blades that is unique in its characteristics.. It's stiff/hard feel.. but loops like a soft blade. It suits a wide spectrum of play. If you are an all out power player, this is a nice blade because it responds well to heavy hard hitting and looping. If you are all around.. this blade has great feel and great touch for a slower game. It gives you what you put into it a lot more than any other blade I've ever played with. Which is why its perfect in my opinion. I'm looking forward to this new HK because of it being thicker, it will have an even larger power potential. Since I am more of an offensive/agressive minded player, It will suit me even more, but im sure it will retain the unique perfect feel that I love in the HK right now. And Since I've been playing pips recently on my BH.. it will break the idea of the HK being bad with pips because its so thin.
I've never played with the H-WL. But generally.. from the few hurricane blades ive played with.. the hurricane blades are of lower quality compared with the HH and the HK.. and all seem about the same. The WL is stiffer and harder than the HK.. that's all i really know since I'm only going by hearsay. but I've played with the H-GY and its basically the exact same as all the H-WL descriptions. They all look really cool though heh.
When i got my HK it was 160 dollars.. its come down since then and I still feel like it was worth the price tag. I've been kind of careless at times though and it has a couple major edge dings/chips. But it has taken a lot of damage and still remains 100% playable. Its durable. Its not too fast for anyone, but the great thing about it is that because of its broad ability, in the right hands.. it is indeed a really fast blade.

1. Agree. Although not the best feel for me but it's unique and I like it... (even over Acoustic which has better feel)... 2. Agree. I have both HWL & HK. 3. Agree again... My HK is the worst blade i have in regards of dents/dinks followed by Korbel, but it's still going on strong... Recently sealed it again and this time I sealed the handle as well.. Now it's looking shiny and better than ever... Hahahahaha.... 4. Although it's not very fast but it's fast enough for me. And although I'm also piqued with the 09 HK... I might get it if the price is about the same as the HK now. If much more then I'll stick with my HK... |

I want another couple HK's. Just so I can always have one to use. I might try a stiga blade sometime that I've looked at for a while.. .but im in no rush because to me it doesn't get much better. I'm always going to play this blade. The 09 is just taking it a step better. So I will periodically bump this thread so that anyone who knows where to get one sometime in the next month can post it here.
thanks a lot.

Sorry for what I am about to say. You all might storm me and club me to death!!
I have been reading that some people said HK = improved OC-CR, which WLQ used for quite some time. Now I have OC-CR but no HK, however I once went to a TT store and the store has this HK, with I07xx plate. I got a ball and bounced ball repeatedly and guess what? It feels 99% the same as my OC-CR, which cost only 1/3 of HK. This might be due to my OC-CR being sealed with Poly for 2 thicker layers than the usual coating. I sanded it pretty heavily, so it is probably equal to 1 thick coating. However, my point is HK can probably be different during play (I can't say I am sure 100%, since I have never play with one), but during bouncing ball on it, I can say that I better use a cheaper OC-CR. If you said that I could not tell how a blade behave just by bouncing ball on it, I tell you that I have more than 30 blades and from bouncing ball on each of them, I develop a feel on how certain blade play in real situation. And it turns out that over 80% I got it right. |

Well like the TBS -> ALC, they might just be giving the HK a face lift. I hope that is the case and I hope they continue to sell the old HK at a discount, like BTY does with the TBS... I want a HK, but I don't know where to get one and I don't want to pay $200.

Doraemon.... One more time you say anything like that I'm going to add you to my black list.... HAHAHA.... just kidding bud....
I've been wondering as well... So far haven't gotten one place selling the OC/OCCR non wrb here locally... But going on review by someone who had try both OC WRB & HK... He said it's different... Here's the review: http://forum.oneofakindtrading.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=5075&highlight=wrb+hurricane+king Someone in indonesia also have both OC & HK and said it's very similar and can play both and change without a hitch... But he also said he didn't like OCCR... Strange huh? Also heard a rumor that the Offensive Wood NCT supposedly more a close resemblance to HK... No supporting reviews though... So far I tried 2-3 stiga's blade (hw, 7.6, opt sync) and didn't like the feel they gave me... I bounced the ball on bare Off Wood NCT and didn't feel the similar feel as my HK though but it's not a good comparison... As much as I like HK... And Tokyo... I would like to get a much cheaper alternative without losing much... Of course with cheaper alternatives there will be a lose-out but am looking for as close as possible subs... |

bouncing the ball on a blade doesn't mean a bunch to me, personally. I have used both blades, with the same rubber. If i hit hard, the OC CR doesn't give me nearly as much response as the HK does. It's a noticeable difference, too. At lower speeds.. they play a lot more similar. But if you are a power player.. the HK is a good idea, and the OC CR isn't as friendly.
The big change for the 09 is the thickness really. More speed/power for the ban. Thats all I know about. I want to try the Stiga Offensive NCT if it is a clone.. but i'll wait to find out what more people think. 80 bucks isn't a super cheap alternative like the OC CR could potentially be. I just like the look of the Stiga blades. Like the 7.6.... thats one attractive blade to me. But I dont like carbon. It supposadly has a woody feel but i dont think I believe it. A chinese player at my club plays tenergy/tsp spectol with a 7.6wrb and seems to do well with it... but He isn't so great at english to find out much. And he wont let anyone use his racket.
I'd like to know more about the offensive NCT. If it is a nice substitute, then I would probably start playing it if it was thicker than the HK is.

Stiga Offensive NCT is very nice blade. It has medium feel with great control. It is not as fast as HK, but it seems more flexible than HK. The only problem (as for all cheap Stiga too) is head heavy. With any rubbers you put on, you could feel the blade having head-heavy.

thanks a bunch. That makes me want to steer clear of it then.. because I'm looking for this 09 to be faster.. and I since I'm starting to use pips I dont want to get a more flexible blade.

Hey guys i am new to this forum
but can i just ask is there really a big difference between HWL and HK. Right now i have a DHS H-WL but i am planning to buy HK and change my rubbers like 6 months from now or untill i wear out both of my rubbers, well the H3 has been going for like 4 months but still nice. the plaio rubber is still new (1 week), but the real problem is my budget is kinda low because i am still young and from the part time job i do i get $100/week, and subtract $35 for my coaching and $$ for some other. So yeah kinda tight budget

I hope they are not making the HK 09 thicker. Just bought an '07 from a forum member less than a month ago and I already like it enough to put my Ma Lin carbon on the bench. The HK might have a hard feel but somehow becomes flexible when smash/loop hard. I like how it plays now and I'm afraid that flexibility will be gone if they make the blade thicker.

they are making it thicker... anyday now the blades are going to hit the stores... you're best bet is to get second hand 07 or 08. once the 09 hits the store i figure some will sell their 07/08... |

It is a good inexpensive blade and a good backup blade for HK. However, Stiga Offensive NCT vibrates quite a bit. |

I might say screw getting a new HK from 09, and just get the exact same model I already have so I have two of the same blade. It plays so well and I just cant get over it. I've been thinking a lot about getting a new blade for pips, but what about just triple sealing the BH side of the HK to make it harder? anyone think that would work to make it better for SP?
I would be afraid the 09 would lose some of its feeling because of the new wood dimensions. But If I seal only the BH side to make it harder, that wouldn't comproimise the FH feeling would it?

How can you tell what year model a HK is? Any markings on the blade or do you need the box? Related to serial number perhaps?
Do we know how thick the HK 09 is supposed to be? Thanks. |

You can tell by the serial number on the bottom of the handle. Mine ends in 008... so I know its a 2008 model. It starts with C, so I know its one meant for regulation in the chinese market.
