I am not sure if he could balance between school and table tennis down the road while most of the top players become a pro at this age. I don’t remember who was the last world champion that did not go pro in modern TT. I am afraid the gap between him and the top Chinese players will not shrink but actually increase. History will tell.

Catching up on the overdramatic TV Tokyo cut-ins.

You are forgetting the ITTF also needed to pay off An (to lose to Falck), Harimoto  (to lose to An) and a few other players to get out of the way - just in case. Then similar things in WS, WD (to make sure that Japanese pair is in the final) etc. Damn those deep ITTF coffers! who knew they have so much money!

LOL. "Yeah, Timo, we're going to need you to withdraw from the World Championships because we're rigging it for viewers. Don't tell anyone, okay? Oh yeah, just say you got the fever".

Harimoto's match was also in prime time as the others. So ya, they like Niwa more.

Both were on 25th(Thu). Niwa(6PM Tokyo time) played before Harimoto(6:50PM) on the same table. BS TV Tokyo broadcast them live. TV Tokyo broadcast the recordings roughly at 9PM(stats shown is for this one).
