FireHorse, the reason the pip players give you trouble is that you're not used to that style of game.  You're so used to playing 1 style of game that the new style gives you trouble.  Also, you haven't had a chance to test out different strategies against pips.
People often have trouble against things they haven't experienced often, it's just natural.  The more you see of a style, the better you will play against it.
In my 1st ever tournament match, I played Mark Berg - he uses anti on 1 side.  I've played against people using anti before - mostly just pushing, chopping and blocking style - so I thought I knew how to approach the match.  Boy was I WRONG.  He would hit and attack with his pips and I had no idea how to deal with it.  It was all very new to me.  I was completely lost in that match (though I did have some good points in there).
I haven't played against that style since then, but I would like to think that next time I would do better because I have a better understanding of what he was doing and why it was effective against me.

You must have been good coming in to play him in your first match...

Nowadays, IMO, Mark Berg uses Anti on both sides - the Sriver he uses is so dead it might as well be anti - he just wants to fool people.

No, no I wasn't.  It was the closest tournament and quite small.  They had 2 events - U1900 and U2100 if I remember correctly.  I had checked previous tournament results and there was a pretty good mix of ratings so I figured why not.  I played Mark (anti), Qi Guo, a young kid on his way up, a guy with pips, and someone I should have beat but I couldn't hit a loop to save my life.
I lost all my matches.

Agreeing about improving technique and understanding of the game, but this complaining is going on for years (not from the originator of this post) and I'm sure it will be for years to come as long as pips are legal.

Agree 100% - It is not the opponents job to come and play the game you like - it your job to win regardless of what the opponent style or equipment they may have.

I think it's age thing, I played 1 event (over 50's) and 13 out of 15 players had pimple of one kind or another
In NZ I only know of 3 boys under 21 using any kind of pips
