This blade was made by a big fan of table tennis in China, who spent several years on improving this blade and has sold several of them already.
In his words, this is the best shape in the world. --- But, many people don't even want to try it. However, it looks good for using your hand and fingers effectively.
If you have any interest, you can contact this guy at: Email:[email protected]. But, to me, it is not pretty at all.

I've seen someone use something like this. It didn't seem that awkward.

Wouldn't that set up be illegal because you can't see what the name of the black rubber is??

If this blade shape had been the norm all along and we were seeing blurry pictures of a newfangled blade with a straight, mostly cylindrical grip on it would we think this new "shakehand" grip was ugly?

Well it has to be used by pen holders, I dont think you could use it with shakehand grip.

Snap the handle off a blade and play with only the head part, grasping it with the thumb on the forehand side and the rest on the backhand. Same grip, same thing. I have tried this with an old junk blade at school, and it is like a penhold/shakehand hybrid. Fun stuff, and at least with this sculpted blade your fingers dont cover up half the backhand rubber like mine did :).

I am not making this up. I just had big meal minutes before I open this forum and while looking at the 2nd picture, I felt like want to throw-up. It surprises me because at one time I watched a doctor performed knee surgery on cable tv while eating a hamburger flooded with ketchup and I don't feel anything. That thing is so ugly!!

the wood work is rough and patchy...the wood grains alignment on the handle are out of sort...the bh rubber should show what sort of rubber it is.... but apart from that i like the design could be improved much further...tried to create one myself couple of time without success... over all i appreciate the asthetic part on creating the blade...btw any specfic name given to this sort of blade ....?

I've benn playing around with this grip myself. Its very comfortable for FH looping and I can get massive spin, back hand however, not so much. There is a french player Clment DEBRUYERES that holds the paddle in this way here is a video of him using the grip http://youtube.com/watch?v=AOkw4SFYhAA
here are some pics of the grip http://www.ittf.com/ittf_juniors/Stories_detail_fr.asp?ID=5170&PT_Title=ITTF+World+Junior+Championships&s_Year=& http://www.wsport.com/img/debruyerespic.jpg one of the forum members also uses this grip his name is Unisonus he mad a paddle here is a link to that post http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15543 Not sure if I would like the paddle in this post I agree the wood working is a bit crude. I was planing on making one myself so I probably shouldn't say anything in case it looks like hell, haha. |

Doesnt seem like you can get a good grip there for high speed playing, looks like it would slip off

I played against someone at Palo Alto who uses that grip. He has good strokes and good form. I was half expecting his paddle to be a RPB but then I saw this monstrosity. He plays really well with good backhand loops as well.

I think it's VERY smart and must be quite comfortable and effective to play with. Let's consider... Ugly ? Maybe...But after few significant victories, I'm sure most of you will find it beautiful. |
