I'm entirely convinced a player 500 points above me in rating will beat me regardless of which brand of equipment he's using (assuming it's similar - long pips or double inverted or w/e)
Butterfly equipment is the best, but I'd say TT skill is 99% training 1% equipment. |

Blades yes, especially the all wood ones like Primorac -OFF and Korbel since they aren't all that more expensive than other brands and very good value for the quality of blade you get. The $200 ones not so much

your question is way too vague. It's open to the large amount of different blades Bty makes, and also how much money a person has....and how much they value that money.

+1, I think a lot of them are, although a few of them are over priced for what you get.

in my opinion, generally... yes, butterfly is worth your penny. but if we're talking a specific blade, either composite/all wood, shakehand/cpen/jpen, flared/straight... i think we'll have different opinions about it

a blade is worth if it works for you.
what about a blade around 150$ expensive?. first it must work for you to be worth. Is it worth a Maze or TB ALC over a 70$ around composite blade?. if it works for you yes, because it can last a lot of years. and besides, the other composite blades do not work exactly the same. a tb zlc does not work for me so it is not worth. i prefer an extra sc. Some are worth, some are not. Lately, due to outrageous price raise, a lot went to the wrong part of the list...

TSP, Nittaku and Kokutaku have better blades at a lower price. But then again some Butterfly blades are unique. Take, for instance, Nitchugo Super which has been around since the 1970s. Of course, all those Timo Boll XYZ models are aimed at beginners who pursue the elusive do-it-all-by-itself blade, and therefore have little or no significance to the game.

YK is definitely a great CPen blade. Great quality and reasonably priced. What I am trying to say is that BTY is not "CPen friendly". A lot of their CPen blades are merely a short handle version of their SH blades. Cutting down the handle of a great (maybe expensive) blade does not make a great CPen blade. The result is a mediocre CPen blade regardless of price. I would like to see BTY designs better CPen blades. Stiga and Yasaka are more CPen friendly. |

If the blade 'fits' your playing style, you really can't put a price on that. But my overall experience is a definite YES !!Edited by jt99sf - 04/23/2011 at 10:40pm |

I use a Primorac 2000 an, but find it to have a 'dead' feel on hitting. Would not recommend it to anyone - not worth it. I am now very wary of Butterfly.

All blades are worth the money.
People around here seem to think that everyone should be able to afford every blade *cough*socialists*cough* and that anything that's not "reasonably priced" is a ridiculous piece of junk. That's like saying we should all be able to afford the best cars or the best wines or the best homes. Ridiculous. If you can't afford to buy the blade then don't buy it, go play with another one. But coming onto the forum and childishly complaining about the equipment because the price point doesn't match up with your station in life... it accomplishes nothing of value to your fellow forum members. |

I think anyone who's reasonable would agree on a normative statement which somewhat counters your view: If there is one blade which is statistically superior to all others, thus granting a person who is wielding it a demonstrably better chance of beating their opponent, then all players should have equal access to it. Now as it happens there's no empirical data on any particular blade being that much better - and the highest priced ones are actually not used by professionals which may actually be considered a counter to that in itself. Your argument against socialism is specious though. Every single Western country in the world is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism. And the vast majority of people living in each of those countries supports and enjoys those aspects of socialism which suit their lives. Police departments, militaries, fire departments, public schools, post offices, public libraries, social security, medicare, medicaid, national parks - I could go on but I assume my point is made - are all socialist programs. A country without any of those in case you're interested in seeing what it looks like and wish to move there would be Somalia. |
