Dear everyone, I want to ask you for advice for a rubber. Right now, I have
a Mark V GPS for my forehand, and a Stiga Chop and Drive for my backhand. While
I love both of them, they feel like they do not fill the bill, but not big.
They are the best rubbers I've had. First for my gameplay style. I mostly loop with my forehand, and sometimes just lift the
ball over. The rubber I have now is a little bit too slow for me, I think. or
too soft. I tried the Donic BlueFire JP 003, and liked it more than the Mark V
GPS. For my backhand, I mostly just use a lot of backspin, and
use it to aggresively control the ball to a point on the table. I do not not
chop. I do not know how this is called, but in Dutch it's called
"Schuiven" for a short backspin drop, and "Steken" for a
long aggresive backspin ball on the back of the table. The Stiga Chop and Drive is good for me, but I want to have
a rubber that confuses the opponent as much as I can, but not lose the amount
of spin I can put on the ball. Thanks! |

I would suggest Xiom Vega Europe on both sides. This combo is a step up in speed and spin yet provides excellent control. As for "confusing your opponent" then try pips on the BH or stick with the Chop And Drive even if it is on the slower side. Just my rusty 2 cents. |

If you like the JP03, then why not go with it? The bluefire series are very good rubbers.
As for the BH, if you dont think you'd ever go offensive on it, would you consider going into Short pips or even long pips for it?

Regular inverted (smooth) rubbers don't really confuse skilled opponents. Even short pips aren't really that deceptive unless your opponent is below a certain level. Long pips, medium pips, and anti-spin are rubbers used to confuse opponents. If you switched to one of the deceptive rubbers, you would have to change your technique and retrain your brain.

The JP03 is a great rubber, nice and soft with great feeling, you could definitely try it for your forehand. If you are looking to confuse your opponent then long pips would probably be the first port of call as antispin is not so common and short pips are very difficult to master variation with.
You could look at a long pips with sponge to start with. If you want to continue using inverted rubber then you would probably have to work on some less orthodox strokes or timings to really throw an opponent off, ie chop blocks or earlier timing, inside out drives and blocks on the backhand etc, not easy stuff. TSP Curl have a wide range of long pips from p1 to the softer P4 chop and P-H which is designed for closer to the table. Plenty of options for different styles.

I typically find medium pips more confusing than long-pips. Long-pips are usually fairly predictable if you have gotten to the level where you understand spin. If I play a medium pips player that I haven't played before, I never know if their pips are going to be more like long pips or more like short pips. Unless its a medium pips rubber that I've previously encountered, either playing against or have used it myself, sometimes it takes me a game or two to figure it out. Sometimes I can get a good idea by inspecting the opponents medium pips sheet before a match.
