Discovered some awesome tutorial videos done by KNT players and coaches, with RSM doing a nice intro.  These videos provide a lot of key details that usually aren't found in other tutorial videos (in terms of mechanics), or items that you learn after getting coaching/ hearing from a friend that gets coaching.  Very insightful material!

You're right igorponger - you got to do it your own way!

It's actually quite interesting how much emphasis the Koreans are putting into finger strength....

Very interesting and makes sense that if you use more finger strength you can get more spin. But, you can also use less finger strength and get less spin despite the wrist moving a lot. This would be super effective for deception! I'm gonna try some of this principles. Maybe I can finally serve some nasty heavy underspin/no spin serves lol... So heavy underspin - you use lots of finger strength, no spin you lax on the fingers, and the wrist action remains identical. I find that the bottom/middle of the racket way of disguising spin is all too easy for opponents to figure out...

This was an interesting point by LSS.  I've tried to implement it recently and my service quality has improved.  The ball is staying lower, is "faster" on the short service, and I can feel the ball bite more on the rubber.  Getting it down on 100% of service is tricky though, still don't have the timing completely down and will pop one up every now and then or out-right miss.

Compared to just pinching at ball contact, I noticed that when I used a larger wrist action my service was slower and had a higher trajectory on the opponent's side of the table.  This made it easier for my opponent to knife the ball on pushes and made it really uncomfortable for me.

With the LSS pinching on service technique: the ball is moving faster, and is skidding on the table retaining more of the spin instead of the table eating it up.  The pushes of these service have been easier to deal with since the opponent has had less time to impart quality on the ball and judge the spin.

It would be interesting to see if this technique is suited more for Euro/Jap rubbers, or if it works with Chinese rubbers as well.  Since loop mechanics are different given the rubber types, it would make sense that service mechanics would be different also. Would be interesting for those that hit with Chinese rubber to share their thoughts on this...

I don't think mechanics are that different between European and Japanese rubber... I play Dignics 09c and Hurricane 3 blue sponge and I can serve pretty much the same way with either rubber.

My serve is my strength and I also use the "pinching" on the bat technique to produce high amounts of spin...
