I like defensive style, but I'm not ready to move to long pips yet, just don't have the time and training to relearn everything on a gamble that I'll take to long pips, which I see used in some just lame ways honestly.
I like to chop, block, serve, punch, and flick with my backhand. I'm using Gambler Reflectoid currently on one blade, and it works to a degree in 1.5mm for that, but I feel like it doesnt quite have enough nasty to it, chops not spinny enough or powerful enough back from the table at times. Any suggestions on something better, or would simply upping the sponge to 2.0 give the added power and more spin with the soft sponge, without losing the deadball block capability? |

I am not defensive player but most of the defensive players I know play either with no sponge (OX) or with sponge less than 1.8mm. So I am not sure if you want to go with 2.0mm sponge rubber for defensive purpose.

tackiness drive is good allround rubber with solid chop. I use 1.7mm now, it helps me to learn BH topspin properly, but still I can use chop/block/drive when not standing well.

You can call and talk to Tom from Zeropong. He is very helpful trying to figure out what might work best for you. |

I may do that, because I really, really don't feel like buying a half dozen backhand rubbers to try out. Thanks for all the other input, some I hadn't thought of myself like the 729 FX, but which version would be best, blue sponge, super soft sponge, or regular? The others I have considered in my looking around, but didn't know if they were that good. |
