What is the best BTY OFF or OFF- blade to get, i have been playing for 6 months now and want a faster blade, im putting sriver-el 2.1 both sides and was just wondering if a Michael Maze would be to fast and if i should go with a OFF or OFF- blade.

In my opinion you should stick with off- just yet, or better yet all, all+. Don't go to a fast blade that you will have problems controlling at your level (no offense). For the first year or two of regular training (like 3-5 days a week) players should be playing with ALL, ALL+. That refines the technique and allows you to control the blade instead of the blade controlling you.

The Violin is pretty nice. I also like the Offensive CR, which is around that speed range IMO.

If you use a premade racket, maybe you can change now and upgrade to a custom one.

Sriver EL is a good choice, but I'd rather go with 1,9 mm instead of 2,1 mm.  For the blade, go with an allround, allround + blade. I really think that the Donic Applegreen/Waldner Allpay is the best allround blade on the market. A little bit faster, but still with a lot of control, you can go with the Waldner Senso.

If you're already a BTY fan, and don't want to buy anything but BTY, then you can maybe go with an Off-, something like the Primorac.  I would say that the Timo Boll (not the Spirit) would be fine, but I didn't like my cousin's one. Korbel is a really nice blade, with a really good touch! I tried the one of ffx-me last week, and I was really surprised how good it was for control shots. I got friend that says that the Maze Passion do the job well but I never tried it. Fiberglass is maybe not the best choice.

So that's it. Imo, it's not wise to go with a blade like Michael Maze right, it is really expensive and not made for beginning players. Maybe in a year or two, your level will be high enough to take profit of such a blade.

Last thing. Butterfly is not the only good brand! It is one of the goods, but not the only one. Look at others companies, sometimes the best thing for us cannot be found in our favorite brand.

www.ping-pong.com : The best place in Canada to buy Andro, Banda and Stiga stuff. Free shipping in Canada over 60$. They sell Donic, DHS, Avalox, Yasaka and Butterfly too, but often products from those brand are not available.

http://www.colestt.com/: In the US, less known brands but still of good quality. Good  customer service, don't think you can really beat his prices.

In the same kind, you have http://www.ppgear.com/, which is canadian, and http://www.zeropong.com/.

For Butterfly, you can go on http://butterflyonline.com/. When the price is marked in Can$, it is shipped from Canada.

I never dealt with those two, but they sell a lot of stuff.

For me the best OFF- blade is the Tibhar Samsonov Alpha which I am currently using.

In the OFF category, the Timo Boll Spirit is pretty good.  I have two of them and used them before I switched to the Alpha.

Overall, I'm not a big fan of the Carbon/metallic feel on a blade, so I am biased in that regard.

I have also heard very good things about the Korbel, though I've never used it.  If u want to go with Butterfly this may be ur best bet.

I second the last comment.  I personally find that Tibhar Samsonov Alpha and Butterfly Korbel are two of the good quality yet quite cheap blade (not to be compared with cheaper yet good chinese products such as Galaxy) that are good value for your money.  Korbel is more powerful, Alpha is only a bit slower but with better feel.

Korbel, Jonyer H, Kiso Hinoki V, the 2nd 2 are both Hinoki, great for touch shots but with power for attack when you need it, compact heads and lighter than the Korbel if you need it. Jonyer is rated as OFF but  is at the slower end of the OFF scale and more like OFF-

If looking at other makes Id go for Stiga Tube Light or Donic Waldner Senso

Or better yet, for $27 plus some shipping you can get 729 V-6 from http://www.eacheng.net- a terrific soft but offensive blade (Carbon-Arylate) which in my opinion is just simply better than TBS/Maze but for the ridiculously low price. Just tell them your weight preference - or you can get a 95 g blade instead of 85 g. They claim that the average weight of it is 88 g.

And while you are there, get yourself some cheap(er) rubbers as well.

JimT

What's happened to the Stradavarius? is that not being used anymore?

The Petr Korbel is a good blade, but the handle is on the small side compared to the Samsonov Alpha, which has a more comfortable handle

Here are some of your best choices available according to me.  I never regulary play with a Carbon Blade, or Carbon Arylate, my two first have been ordered yesterday, and maybe it's wrong to think that way, but I don't think that a beginner player should start with Carbon blades. I coached 2 or 3 guys under 16 that bought a Carbon blade (Smirnov Ultra, Schlager Carbon, and a Stiga ..) in their first year, and they all switch back to all-wood (Apllegreen Allplay, Timo Boll, Stiga Offensive Classic) in less than 6 months. They then stick with wood for a couple of years, and after 5 years, only one have switch to carbon.

Tibhar: Samsonov Alpha
Donic: Waldner/Applegren Allplay, Waldner Senso
Butterfly : Korbel, Primorac (I'd go with the Korbel between those two)
Joola : Torre All+, Stefan Feth Cross

I don't really know much about Galaxy, Dawei, Gambler and Friendship blades, except the fact that they supposed to be good and cheap. DHS, Nittaku, Juic, Andro, Avalox all made good blades too, but I bever had the occasion to try an Allround one in those brands.

well i am probably going to go with a korbel, it seems to have the most recommendations and is a very affordable blade.

does any one have or know any one who has a new or used Korbel on sale, it can also be a wibesite. Ive found a couple but would like some more.

I try every type of blades (carbon, arylate, aramid carbon, one ply hinoki, all wood...)! Believe me, there is nothing better for looping like all wood 5ply blades (with outer ply KOTO). It has great speed, wooden feel, maximum dwell time=maximum spin, maximum control, ... China is No.1 in table tennis, and all China National players use all wood blades, because it is simply the best (LOLall others die like the restLOL)!

Korbel is a good choice death angel.
For the handle, It's not that small (like some Nittaku), personally I never noticed it was small and felt comfortable with the one I used. Take a ST handle if you want something bigger.
Tennis Grip is also a good inexpensive way
