I had the exact same experience with my x5. I did'nt know about sealing at the time and glued my rubbers on without much thought. Once i pulled them off the top ply split away. Got myself a new one about a month back and used sanding sealer this time. No problems yet but i have banged it once already and it really dents it hehe |

sealing will prevent some of the issues when peeling off the rubbers. the balsa carbo x5 is super fragile. i banged mine a couple of times and ended up double taping to minimize the dents. but this does add weight. no question about it the balsa core is extremely fragile.

Next time (or you can even do it right away) you can start with taking a small tube of superglue and covering the edge of the blade with it - thick layer or two which then can be sanded down if it does not look too pretty (after it hardens completely, of course). That will really help with edge protection - especially if you pair it with some edge tape. |

I would recommend against applying sealant to the X5. It actually comes pre-sealed from Butterfly and shouldn't need it for purposes of regluing.
I understand that people are concerned about the durability of the blade. I like the idea of applying some sort of glue or protection around the blade edge. Also, keep in mind that this blade is less than half the price of the mainstream Bty blades (TBS, KLS, Sardius, etc.). So if it breaks, you may just need to expect to replace it.
I don't think that Bty intended to produce such a nice blade for such a cheap price -- they just got lucky. It is also likely the Bty will not maintain the same quality control for these blades as for the more expensive ones. So I would expect to see a lot of variation in performance and durability due to inconsistent quality.

I love this blade
I just put Tenergy 05 and 64 on it in 1.9
Plays beautifully especially the 64 1.9 on the forehand
Really nicely balanced.
Plays nice loop and flat hit
Great control

If I only buy one blade this year it will be one of these. I have the similar TSP 6.5 but I've read a few reviews that suggest the Balsacarbo might be slightly better again so it's worth a test :)

How does it compare to ishlion?
I imagine heavier, cheaper, more fragile, thinner. Anything else?

Hi Nicefrog
Strangely enough I tried a TSP balsa 6.5 the other day
having played with the BalsacarboX5 for more than a year
In practise it looped like a dream with Tenergy
When I got into a game it seemed way too bouncy and lacked control
Not sure what your experience is
Does the fitter differ significantly from the normal version which is what I played with?

The X5 is made in china, and the quality control is an issue with this blade. It does not come presealed from the factory. I find that the speed is a very low OFF- at best. This blade can not be compared to a TBS or similar in terms of quality or playability. I do have one and played with it long enough to realize you need a very fast rubber if you play an offensive game. Could I play with it if I had to.... Yes. Would I consider buying it again.... Nope. |

The Balsacarbo is a fairly thick blade, it gives a very solid feel. Not terribly fast, but very good control. All and all is a very good blade for the price.

So having tried other blade like the TSP 6.5 I have decided to stay with BCX5 because of the control that it gives.
I am also clear now that Tenergy 05 is much better for a short to middle range game. It has much more grip and is much more controllable under pressure, so I will be moving to BCX5 with Tenergy 2.1 on both sides. Having started with 1.9 on both sides, I am not convinced that 1.9 gives any significant advantages except possibly for control on pushes .
