That's exactly how it is playing a high level inverted player, you can if you are good enough vary the ball extreme amounts with inverted and do it exactly how you want, thus giving the next ball you are about to receive a high degree of predictability. Plus they have much better and faster over the table games to punish that next ball which they already know where and what height it will be from the moment they hit it the point before. Plus they have a powerful long range game to fall back on if they need it. An 1800 guy feels like that playing me, just like I would playing playing Brian Pace just like he does against the guys the next level up, just like Fang would to a lesser degree against Ma long

very well said blue. lol "smoking the good stuff." If Brian was given a second chance, he would make a lot less service return errors, and his timing would improve. 1800's can play good games when given the chance, but if someone is being an ass, an 1800 will look like a 1000. Just like how Fang made Brian look like a 1800.

It's one thing when you outright blast someone off the table. It's a totally different thing when you play a game where you send a lot of "annoying" balls.

Does anyone know how Brian did against players closer to his rating? It would be interesting to see if his training in Romania and his pips out BH are creating gains.

Fang Bo is my second favorite player after ZJK. Pity he can't play enough tournements. He's ranked like # 10 in the world in my opinion. ITTF rankings reflect the relative skill ONLY for people that play enough tournaments. I mean who on the current ranklist ranking lower than 10 could beat Fang Bo in more than 50% of the matches?
puppy412 : Sorry man, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but I know that more training will make me better, I don't need to come here to figure that out

Who knows, but I find it very rude that no one offered to score. If you didn't have to keep score yourself and could concentrate on playing, everyone in the US would go +100 points !:)

Here's another one. This one even has a scorekeeper.

Peter Li is rated 2566.

Yep, he changed back a few months ago to Spectol 21.

His BH is more block, counter, and snap through the ball, basically set-up for his big FH.  Your BH is more seek and destroy.

Unable to find the information about this player, Tao Wenzhuang, either in Ratings Central or ITTF.

He is the 3rd player in Alex TT-Elite team.  Appeared to be the weakest in the team.
(The other two players are highly rated:  Zhang Chao and Fang Bo.)

It is crazy how Fang Bo & all are so far beyond a level that we can even comprehend.  Look at how he nonchalantly flicks away one of Peter's serves at 2:00.  It's like every now and then he reminds you of just who you are playing...

I'd love to hear Brian's thoughts on what it was like to face Fang Bo.

The correct name seems to be Tao Wenzhang. Played a couple of junior tournaments in 2010:
http://www.ittf.com/competitions/matches_per_player.asp?P_ID=117340&Competition_ID=1959
http://ratingscentral.com/Player.php?PlayerID=45496

He replaced Song Hongyuan, who was busy playing the junior worlds just before Baltimore.

Just watched some clips of Fang Bo at Junior championships from 2008 I think and damn...what a match against the Korean player.  That guy that posted some 1800 players could give him a run for his money...he doesn't get to post anything for a week....lol. Come on man...he didn't look like he was playing against Brian cause he didn't have to play hard. No offense to Brian...Fang is clearly 2700+.

Rating by Ratings Central:

Zhang, Chao:  3013
Fang, Bo:  2942
==============================

Brian Pace and Peter Li's ratings are nowhere near that.

As far as a guy who said: "A USATT's 1800 rated player can give Fang Bo a run for the money."
Well, no one seems to buy that statement.

The problem is some players don't want their opponent's teammate to be a score flipper.  Although the scorer is not an umpire, sometimes, they get asked about let serves, questionable edge balls, did you see this or that?, etc.  Obviously, you don't want your opponent's teammate assisting in those calls as there is bias involved.

I have a related story, a friend of mine was playing against this little kid in a local tournament.  In the middle of the match, the kid's dad sat in the umpire's chair to call score.  My friend, who is an emotional type, said "If you think you're gonna sit there and pretend to be an umpire, you're @#%ing wrong." LOL.  The dad just gave him a dirty look and walked away.  Classic. Smile

Found a video about Fang Bo.
Brian Pace should not feel too bad about losing a match to Fang Bo.

(Fang Bo did not appear "excited" over his win over Brian Pace.
Can Fang Bo appear "excited"? Just check out the following link.)

Fang bo looked pretty excited about beating on Timo Boll.  He beat Timo Boll...are you kidding me!  He would probably be competitive with just about any player in the top 20, but in all honesty Timo looked disinterested, and the way he was playing some 2000 players I know could probably give him a run for his money...ha.  Just slap me.  No wonder he didn't look too interested in his match with Brian...it wasn't even a challenge!  I know Brian is a good player...but after seeing Fang beat Timo...that was some serious tt.

And yet that's exactly how 98% of the league matches played in Europe are umpired. It works because the teams take turns keeping score. Oh, and because club players in Europe generally value sportsmanship and fairness.

Actually, here's Fang Bo himself keeping score for Zhang Chao against a very good Japanese player (five games!) - anyone know him?

Baltimore is also an endurance tournament. You gotta play a lot of matches, so I would use less energy to beat someone, especially when the level difference is just too great. You can really tell how good of a serve you can get especially if you practice like the chinese.

seems like Fang Bo is toying with everyone. God, he doesn't even serve the way he did when playing seriously. Pretty much an eye opener. My life goal was to achieve something over 2000+ but seeing Bo messing around with a +- 2500 rated player? god..... ClapShocked

To sum it up vutiendat...I think the quote from Wayne's World when they met Alice Cooper pretty much describes it best when Wayne and Garth bowed down and said "we're not worthy"
