Previously I posted a video and a discussion went on about Mr. Sahir and our coach on (http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=42522&PN=2#528777), some rated him as low as 1300 and up to 2000-/+.. check out this video and tell me what you think, Keep in mind the age factor (not that it would affect rating) he is 41, and had a disc injury which prevented him from playing competitively at a young age. The other guy is Coach Ali (he coaches in a club here in Kuwait) previously high ranked Egyptian player.

I think he would be around 1800-2000. His forehand is quite good but his backhand is not very good. He mainly uses it for placement and touchshots.

It is a nice game! Would be fun to play like that. I suppose they werent really playing to win? Or did you cut out the non-rally points.

Very nice game. again no lower than 2000. They have very good understanding on shots they are receiving. Good FH strong and spinny. BH not so good but consistent and uses it well and more importantly what he can do with his BH he really uses it to put him at an advantage.
Nice vid Sallom :)

These are more than just 'nice' points. Its actually 7-12 points per match which is half or more of the points anyway. How many games 2000 and below do u see that many nice points. Lucky to get 2 or 3.
If u watch the whole match u will see just how smart and skill full these players are. The bigger guy seems better though. His on the spot thinking is incredible and his feel and touch for the game looks good. Plus the better more offensive BH. Both these players look like they would beat me, the 41 year old maybe 50/50. I enjoy watching these 2 play as I can definitely see they had and still have talent.

It seems that my previous 2000 ratings for them are about right.

To be a 2000 level player, one needs to loop inside or out of table balls well, loop the service and have many third ball atacks.

I defer to your assessments then. I'm not 2000, but I beat a 2000 player once 4-1 (with handicap plus 5 points to me :))

He usually do those touch shots with backhand vs this opponent to bring him back to the table or to win the point.. with us it is different, he would loop loop loop with BH lol.

I did cut the non-rally points that are won by either unforced errors, strong serves or 3rd ball attacks, there were many quality 3rd ball attacks, but didn't want to make the video longer.

Unfortunately there where many nice 3rd ball attacks that I removed and flips/flicks after services.. now someone is saying that I included the 'nice points only'.

EDIT: I was just kidding. The people I play with are all good sports.

The righty is much, much better than the lefty. He is toying with him especially the first game.

I would say the lefty to be around 1800 to around 2000. The better player makes him look good.

We have a player similar to him in our club. Very good stroke. Loops backhand and forehand, if you let him. Lousy serves and serve return. Not sure of his rating but he beats most 1800 and below players. I beat him 3-0 every time because I take advantage of his serves and serve return.

I agree with Bonggoy, the coach is a much better player. It looks like he is giving good balls to loop, even serve light spin balls to the FH. Maybe he thinks he is coaching the man.. LOL
Mr. Sahir though has a nice FH, steady and very consistent. So I'll still go with my assesment of 1900 +/- 100 points..

Looks like the lefthanded player is not being tested much, so it's really hard to say... Very nice forehand, but backhand lacks power.

1975-2025 is my new estimate, while keeping in mind that there are "strong" players for their rating and some very weak ones... This player is indeed a "strong" high 1900s player in the video.  If he were to play at our club's U2000 event he's probably favored to win, but there are quite a few "strong" underrated players in our area as well.

I'm modifying my previous estimate slightly. Before, I speculated they're at 1900 but I'd move it up slightly (in agreement with roundrobin's estimate), both because I think they're playing at that level and because roundrobin has been playing for a long time against a lot of people in a fairly "active" TT region. I trust his judgment (especially when it coincides with my intuition LOL).

So I'm guessing upper 1900s or lower 2000s.

rewatched the vid and counted the points shown per set. It was only 8-9 points per set as low as 6. Maybe I counted wrong. Assuming close scores then 50% of the match is missing. And one guy preferred to play from a distance. So naturally the points tend to stretch out because he was not exactly attacking from afar. They were not all particularly "wow" shots either, just long points. The balls were not exactly fast either. I seriously think this play can happen between 1500 to 1700 with the right pairing.
