About to finalize my purchase, but since some shops don't have one thing or another, still deciding and it gets confusing!
I'm pretty much set on the Donic Epox Power All around blade. This was my original thread on help on my 2nd setup: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=48646&KW=&PID=605436&title=help-choosing-my-2nd-setup#605436 I originally was set on Vega Pro (I'll have to order it from someone else or wait weeks to get it), but after reading a bunch, maybe Acuda S2 (in stock) is better suited for me as it's a little slower and throw angle is a little higher. As above thread, I like my friends TO5FX but I'd like a little more speed. Maybe closer to TO5? Which I guess something in between? Not buying BFly, too expensive. So..now need help on the rubbers and this is my choices and still open for other opinions. S2, 2.0FH, 2.0 BH. Vega Pro, 2.0 FH, 2.0BH or Vega Europe 2.0BH Maybe Rakza 7 is a good choice too as it seems similar to the Acuda S2? or something else??? Thanks! Edited by j-bo - 04/17/2012 at 4:09pm |

I have a sheet of Vega Pro 2.0mm red, but I'm not selling
Can't comment on Vega pro since I haven't used one yet.
The Acuda S2 is a great rubber, good spin on loops & control on pushes, very reliable. But durability is still out to the jury.
I would rate the Rakza7 a better rubber than S2. The sponge is firmer. Durability is really good. It is also faster which you want if attacking.
Not sure what your level is. If you favour your FH more while playing, put Rakza7 on your FH and S2 on your BH. But if you like to have the same brand/rubber on both sides, go with S2 if you're an upstart; go with Rakza7 if you're an intermediate or higher

the throw angle of vega pro is much higher than s2. spin of VP is also greater. the arc of VP is sharper. s2 has a longer and lower trajectory (not like calibra but close). s2 has fewer gears, but is more bouncy. the greatest difference is that VP gives you much more margin for error. with s2 you might get used to go mid distance because looping from close to table is too risky.

Thanks for the input.
Seguso.read your review on the database too.. thanks. Think I'll stick with my first choice and go with Vega Pro Max or 2.0 FH and either 2.0 on backhand or go with Vega Europe 2.0 BH. |

If you want more speed than T05FX then perhaps Vega Pro is not the way to go - it gets a lot slower after the 1st couple of weeks. I was researching into the same topic and a friend at the club I go to mentioned this.
This blogpost & accompanying video gives a nice Acuda S2 review:http://www.breaking2000.com/backhand-rubber-donic-acuda-s2/ In terms of throw, perhaps Vega Pro is similar to T05FX - FX is high throw but distinctly lower than T05.

Nice write up.. does he use S2 on forehand too? He doesn't mention what blade he is using either.
At my skill level (probably US1300 or so), I'm guessing that either of these (vega/S2) or even rakza 7 would be just fine. Just wanting something I can be fairly proficient in and even if it takes a bit of learning, I want to stick to one setup and practice, practice, practice with it and learn how to use it well over the years. I think he uses Acuda S1 on his FH. He used to use Rakza 7 before.

How much slower can a rubber get and when you say that...then what is the speed comparable to? Remember, I'm coming from a Inspirit Quattro 2.0. My blade choice is faster than what I have now too. Since you were researching... what choice did you go with and why? Thanks for the help! |

Am not familiar with the Inspirit Quattro.
My friend mentioned that the XVP gets around 25% slower. I didn't go with this as I didn't want to get a rubber that is as heavy as a T05 and ultimately plays like a marginally faster Mark V. I chose the Acuda S2. Here's my lengthy review after an initial hit: In short, so far I like it and feel it suits my game / ability more than the T05 FX.

Maybe its subjective but i find vega pro to be faster than T05 FX speed is at par with T05 but spin is lower than T05 but still has more than enough spin to comfortably lift underspins, XVP is also a high throw rubber and is less durable than tenergy series IMHO

I keep reading reviews for vega pro and yours so far is the only mention of loss of speed. Not that I'm doubting your buddy..just don't mention of it elsewhere and others may not notice this loss in speed as maybe they are not sensitive to the changes. Read your s2post..very informative..thanks. Still think pretty sure I'll give vega pro on fh and vage europe on bh a try. Not too hard to change if it isn't for me. Thanks for the help and posts. Good choice, go with 2.0 on the FH and go with Europe 2.0 or less on the backhand
