Hey guys,
The Chinese Community Center was holding its Semi-Annual (Non-Sanctioned) Tournament in Houston Texas Last Saturday (June 5th 2010).  The tournament structure was round robin with 5 differently ranked individuals playing each other to then later to be placed in a division of their skill bracket.  Each skill bracket contains 2 groups of players.  From here the winners of their groups would face off for the first and second places in their divisions.  For me, it was my first big tournament and I had alot of fun watching all the high level players battle against each other.  It was very refreshing to see so many penholders present during the tournament.  Where I'm from there hardly isn't any penholder influence. So I have to film my form, as well as others, to work on my game.  Incidentally, many of the matches contain penholders in them.  About half of the videos are of the semi-finals and finals of the tournament.

Anyway, one of the members from my club asked if I could put them up online because he missed the entire final/semi final matchup due to him trying to place in his own division.    Since they've been up for a couple of days now, I thought I'd share them with you.

The Player List Includes (USATT Rattings as of 6/10/10):
Bui, Edouard - 1918
Liu, Shangfeng - Unrated (plays around 1950-2100)
Lee, Sumi - 2312
Nguyen, Hoan - 2273
Subonj, Victor- 2519 (I was told that his highest ranking in at USATT was 18th Male player)
Wang, Huijing - 2582 (Ranked 3 in the Top 100 US Women)

Match Listings:
Division A Matches::
Edouard Bui Vs. Shangfeng Liu
Shangfeng Liu Vs. Hui Jing Wang

Semi Final Matches::
Hoan Nguyen Vs. Hui Jing Wang
Su Mi Lee Vs. Victor Subonj

Final Match::
Su Mi Lee Vs. Hui Jing Wang

I upload them to my YouTube Page HERE.
Or the full link: http://www.youtube.com/Omega740

Enjoy,
Omega

Note: I contacted the coordinator of the tournament (Frank Cheng) and asked him to ask the players in these matches if they had any objection with me putting them up online.  As of right now, there have been none.  Mind you I will have to remove them if I am asked from the individuals in the film.

Yea that was one of the more interesting matches of the bunch.  Please be aware though, that Victor hasn't been in a rated match since 2008.  Some of my club members have known him personally for a while now and spoke to him before the tournament started.  He said that his game was lacking as of late.  One would assume that hes been out of it for a while.  Non the less, a fantastic match to watch and he was a good sport about it at the end of the match.

yep, that makes sense. A good chopper is the last player you want to face if you are a little rusty. LOL
