This is a demonstration of forehand loop against backspin by a former China National Team player.
His name is Dong Lun. He has played with Kong Linghui in double match. He has won Jan-Ove Waldner in 1992. Let's watch his penholding style forehand loop technique demo ! I agree :P, but a lot of the players here in Australia tend to have poor waist rotation so that they use their legs to spring up for power instead of an even combination between waist/leg. I was told once by an overseas student who was a player in china that if done correctly, looping should look effortless due to the arm being carried by the body while the legs and waste move in sync. |

I have discussed with many China coach. They said the most important things to do in forehand loop is weight transfer. So leg and waist rotation is very important.

He emphasizes in sync when doing it.
5 body parts in sync. He strokes seem quite fierce and fast. The sound of hitting (rather than brushing more) is obvious. |

Nice! As I'm listening, I have the urge to say "Drop it like it's hot, drop, drop it like it's hot." over and over again.

Thanks for the video - very nice.
Good music - but prefer to listen to the sound of the ball and bat making contact with the ball.

Thanks, we will consider to not let the background music to override the sound of the ball next time.

Good video. I'm sure if I video recorded myself looping vs backspin, I'm sure I would see myself not getting low enough and using enough of my entire body vs just arm movement.
Another factor that I see him doing is letting the ball get into a good position to the side of his body in his loop. Naturally footwork and placement is important but I think at times I can catch myself out of position on this stroke where I contact the ball a little more out in front of me. With my natural swing, the more the paddle is in front of me, the more the face of my blade starts to close in the follow through and thus into the net. |
