What is it?
Why would you want a sponge to do it?
What advantage does it give you?
What sound is it most like in everyday life?

Anything else missed here re clicking?

As far as I can tell it means absolutely nothing . . . except a cool sound. It's sorta like a Harley Davidson sound. It doesn't add anything performance wise, but it makes some people feel good about it so . . .
I prefer the sound of the umpire saying . . . "Congratulations, you won the match!"

I like it.  The sound does represent a certain feel and a loading of the topspin on the ball.

it is a little help since it gives a feedback to your action.

But it is a highly overrated and oversponsored item.

manufacturers overemphasize it to create a differentiator, since these days due to product parity most of the companies do not have enough difference from other's productline.

Well actually i am talking about the term "click"  or "pop" even, as i read about it and players seem to talk alot about it when glueing up.

Does it happen on non-glued rubbers, which ones for instance?

Does it happen for instance every time the ball is struck/lashed or just when you hit it perfectly?

It happens mainly on rubbers that have been glued up alot. There are some tensors out there that apparently click alot too.

The type of click you get also depends on the stroke you use. Loopers get a "thinner" sounding click, as hitters tend to get more of a cork click. It's really hard to explain. You just have to go to a tournament and see/hear all the glued up rubbers

I like rubbers that make this noise a lot, I find it to be good feedback as to the quality of my strokes LOL.

it's so funny, when I'm using cream MRS which is between Chinese and Euro, when I hear the clicking sound, it means i've brushed too thick and there's not much spin on the ball...when there's no click the ball is usually loaded with spin.
