good explanation. thumbs up. I never called it the Float Serve, but that will be my new name for it going forward. I'm gonna go home and practice my Float serve tonight.

It looks like his float serve has a little bit backspin? So it's more like heavy backspin vs. light backspin combo...

I agree Zingy...when you saw the ball bounce on the other side of the table it did stop for a moment so it did have a slight backspin...just not nearly as much. We would probably call it a no-spin serve, but I like Float serve better. The main point is he did a good job of showing how effective it can be to do a heavy backspin serve and then use a slight backspin serve using the same motion. I do try this with my BH serve and it's always helped me get some easy points when my opponent pops it up, but I don't try it much with my FH serve so I'll practice it.

i feel that for most club players, float and light topspin serves are very effective-especially if short-as people tend to push short serves |

A float shot should have slight backspin - just a lot less than a chop. That is what makes it hard to read

+1 Also, you can have no-spin serves with very light sidespin
