I tried the blue wahle II factory tuned 38 this past weekend. In terms of speed, it is no faster that the Inspirit Quattro regular although it BW is spinnier. People may not find  Inspirit quattro regular or UL an instant darling becuase it takes time for the effect to break in. If Dawei can also make them factory tuned, Inspirit will definitely have an edge, at least pricing wise. Could you make the proposal to the manufacturer?

I believe Cole doesn't agree with factory tuned rubbers.

That's a great suggestion.  I like both IQ and IQUL.  It will be nice if they come pre-tuned.

I'm not against anything.  I wish everything was legal that was legal 5 years ago.  But I just want the standards to be applied the same to everyone.  Don't let one company do something, and then tell another one they can't.  Don't deal harshly with one company, and then give the next some mysterious "break" when they get in trouble.

I don't think that it's legal, but I personally would have no problem tuning a rubber and selling it because I don't think the ittf is the "boss of me" anyway.  If it's not against the law and it's not immoral I don't mind doing it.  And I don't consider it immoral unless you take it to a tournament.  Lots of people just enjoy playing in their clubs with whatever they want.  For me, that's ok.

If you tuned the sponge before the topsheet was attached you would be doing nothing that the factory isn't doing anyway...... and charging a fortune for.

Well, I still have most of a bottle of spintech tuner.  I dont' mind doing it.  I don't make any promises in terms of passing an enez though.  I have no idea.

How would a factory know if the rubber was tuned before or after the topsheet was applied?  Just by whether the top is stretched or not?

I am not sure how the ittf would know what the factory did (if that's what you meant) unless they did some testing with a topsheet they approved compared to one attached to the sponge, or actually watched some production runs.  I just think that the factories are tuning before the topsheet is applied to keep from "altering" the approved characteristics of the topsheet as the rule now states.  It is probably also easier to treat the sponge by itself as to not contaminate or damage the molded topsheet, and you would definitely get more tuner effect by treating both sides, letting it soak in and dry.

Cole,

Have you talked to Dawei factory regarding the tuning.  Are they planing to make factory pre-tuned rubbers like Blue Whale II and 729-08?

Friends,
Be aware that some 50% of the China`s factory-tuned rubbers, marked as "commercial" or "provincial" version do overstep the 4mm limit.
Only "national" grade speciments of the rubbers are well warranted to be of legal thickness < 4mm.

Well, one thing good about UL is that the topsheet is so thin.  Lots of room for sponge.  that's unusual for chinese rubbers.  Palio makes some thin tops, but most are pretty thick.
