Sorry that I misunderstood with this mark.
And uncle what is this? (trying to find someone's blade which has some dents )
For me It's very hard to make a decision(considering from the grain
in the pics). I think Nittaku Cho's grain is a bit more even and more eqaul
from right to left but K is a bit tighter on the right side to the center and
a lil bit more space on the right.
Could you tell me how different of these two's performance ?
I guess that K might faster and Nittaku Cho might be a more balance
blade.Am I right(or wrong)?
Anyway these two are supreme for me.How could I'll be lucky like you
uncle?

The Nittaku Cho Tokusen is still perfect, no dent at all. If I see only the picture, I would have suspected a dent as well, but in actuality, there is no dent. Using a magnifier, I found out that it is a mark left from sandpaper which I used fo smoothen the sides, I must have given too much pressure on that part. You see, I am even equipped with magnifier (powered 6x and 8x)
On the Kokutaku however the mark you gave is a dent, I must have hit the table lightly. I don't know what would be the difference I will find out when I have used the Nittaku. It seems like you always want a perfect blade (and I am too), but this will never make us happy, always continuing to seek a better one. I think we should stop somewhere. Do you agree ? Anyhow as time goes by, Hinoki materials are getting more and more scarce. |

I believe you my uncle. Please don't threaten me by your magnifier.
We're just humans. So everyone want as best as he could that's all human
nature.I asked you because I'd like to increase my knowledge, that's all for
this time .And that's right that we should stop to try to seek better
blade someday.
Another point is when you spend some money to buy something that
makes you happy. For me I didn't expect it to be the best(although I want
the best I could and I think many people are like me at this point).I just
want something that is just acceptable for me and worth my money
(uncle, you knew that my "acceptable point" is not so much higher than
typicalness). What do you think if you got something that is not even
worth your money?Something that's not up to par.It doesn't matter who
you are...a pro,a national player or just a rec player that's not the point.
"Anyhow as time goes by, Hinoki materials are getting more and more scarce."
I agree with you. We're just a little part of the nature. We should have
more respect to the nature and would better take care of it.
No Nature No Humanity.

Yes, it is very disappointing if we get thing which is not worth the money we paid. "To stop at some point someday" for me is an ideal which serves as some kind of a brake so I will not go too fast in buying new equipment. Another brake is to think : will the new equipment better than the one I already have ? There is a chance that we will be disappointed and it happened to me in the past too.
BTW can you please post the picture of your Kim Taek Soo ? |

Yeah....I'm pleased to show that for you.
Why do you want to see that?
It's a good one but not the top. However this time I really satisfy with it.
It's much better than I've expected.

Just curious, because once I thought KTS is the best in single ply hinoki.
Now, what do you think about this compared to KTS? |

It's from your Darker Speed 90,right?
Ummm...well I think KTS is thicker for sure but from the pic,I see that your
darker's grain is a bit straighter, tighter and more equal than mine maybe
the wood is older too(maybe because of you seal it). ^^"
Well...Mine is a New Kim it'd be better if you could see and Old Kim
(I've seen once, that one is not quite much impressive).

Yes, it is my Darker Speed 90 in 9 mm. My point is : comparing the grain of Darker and KTS above, is it better to buy Darker (in 10 mm version) or KTS ?

I agree with T h e N A M.
If we talk only about the grain and weight I think Darker has more
consistency at this point. And sure for me If I could,I'd like to pick up the
best grain as I could.
But like aeoliah's said
It's still a mystery and I still believe(from the deep of my heart and it's
something that's unreasonable) that if you are so very very
very lucky it's possible to find a good Kim (which may has a good grain
or not) that's faster and maybe lighter than all (even though it's very hard
and close to the word "impossible"). |

I've talked to a lot of people who know jpen products especially malvin about the grains of jpen blades. I was trying to find out all about it because I was trying to buy one. He told me that the quality of the wood goes in rank like this: 1) Kokutaku 2) Nittaku 3) Darker 4) Xiom 5) Butterfly. The butterfly blades back in the 1980s used to be very good but the quality now is very bad. Butterfly just has good marketing. Kokutaku has the oldest grains of hinoki woods therefore the lightest and the best. I recently bought a darker blade from malvin weighing in the low 90s. The feel is extremely light and fast. He hand-selected the blade from a batch in japan from a shop. The blade has awesome feel and one of the best looking darker blades i've seen. I was able to play with it the past week and it's just awesome

I'm not an expert at all so this is just my opinions. From my little experience I've seen some of Butterfly and Xiom's blade.I've ever thought that Butterfly has the worst wood at all but later I had to changed my mind. ^^" As we knew that how's good the marketing thay have how's harder to keep the product's quality and I think Butterfly can handle it as well compare to their good marketing(although it's hard to find good blades from butterfly but the others left are not so bad they have an acceptable standard compare to their huge mass productions). For Xiom I think they used to be better than this time but because they have the best marketing. The most important factor is RSM is their presenter so there's high demand of ryu blade and it makes them trouble to keep their par.I have no doubt with their craftsmanship or their package but the wood is a raw material from nature and it has a limitation.Single-Ply Hinoki Jpen's quality depends on wood only.It doesn't
have any artificial things to help the blade's performance.
So I think lately I've seen so many blades that are not up to par and worth their price. Please try to take a look some new Xiom's Blades and
you will know that I don't have any bad intention.I still hope that some
day by some way I'll get a good one from them.

I'm sorry maybe the things I've seen are butterfly's old stock and I've seen
only Xiom's lately stock.
Welcome to our Jpen family.I'm not an expert but I'd like to tell you as I
know. It's believed that old kim is more consistency in weight and grain. The
wood is older,lighter and a bit harder.I think it's a lil bit faster too.Anyway
it depends on each blade. If you're lucky it's possibly to get the new kim
like the old one.For myself,I haven't seen a new kim which has a good
grain weight less than 104g.Maybe I'm an unlucky man.

Jingneogenesis, Old single ply hinoki was made from good quality wood, but as they make more blades, the good quality wood becomes insufficient, so they are forced to use the wood with inferior quality. In fact this happens also on multiply wood blades. |
