I am just as guilty as the next guy when it comes to EJing and changing blades and rubbers. The problem is it takes about 6 weeks for your brain, sensory receptors to lock in the small or large differences in blades and rubbers. I am proud that I have not changed my setup for 7 months now and believe my game is dead "ON" for my age, level, experience etc. My only near future purchases are 2 more Runlox-5's (same weight) and the exact same rubbers. It's such a great feeling knowing I found the right stuff...kinda like finding a good wife. :) Hey you guys...Bluefire will not make you a world class player. LOL

You're so right. That must be the reason I cannot part from my Lissom, which has been my main blade for two years, now.

Also, I've given up trying to find a better blade for my game, since as you say I have probably adapted to Lissom. Too bad the rubber I use on BH (Nittaku Hi Super Drive) is nearly impossible to find, now. I'll have to find a similar one (thinking about Coppa or Sriver EL).

Now, when the EJ bug bites, I compare two different setups between each other, but not to my Lissom. That should remove a bit of bias.

Good on you however why did you buy 2 more identical blades? The chance of you breaking one is fairly remote. The chance of you breaking both is astronomical! Smile
I know that faster equipment will make me better, I don't need to come here to figure that out

I plan on buying 2 more because I know from experience that manufacturers discontinue great blades for no apparent reason. It simply astounds me they do that. I will seal them and they will be stored away in a safe place for possible future use. Thumbs Up

Don't give me that! the real reason is that you want to lock one in a safe space and use the other one for EJing rubbers. Big smile

No that's what you would do not me. EJing can really hurt a players game especially beginners. BTY is well known for discontinuing great blades, Nittaku is an unknown but I'm not taking chances so 2 more it is! Thumbs Up

EJing is not bad for one's game. On the contrary, it expands one's game to greater possibilities by increasing general knowledge and concentration abilitiesSmile.

You only list two. How can we be sure that you have three more? Tongue

Joking aside, I also have three Lissoms. One is being used, the other one is locked up, the third one I can light-heartedly lend to those who want to test it.

recreational/hobby players in general tend to value equipment too much. if you talk to pro players, all of them don't care about equipment, because they not that it is not equipment that dictates your playing skill. i mean, you can notice the difference between herdness and speed of rubbers , but to say that certain rubber is 25% faster thatn the other or using booster in a hurricane 3 will soften the sponge by 2 degrees, that is just plain stupid.

The Pro Players get FREE and customized equipment.  Many players use equipment that are too fast for their level, but they tend to like their OFF game.

I think most pro players are very picky about their equipment. Don't think they accept shelf rubbers, they probably have a set hardness that they like and which is always delivered to them. Players who aren't good enough to get these special deliveries from the manufacturer, but still serious about their game, usually specify the weight of the uncut rubber to "make sure" they get the same hardness as they are used to. The main difference between pro's and amateurs when it comes to equipment is probably more about the urge to try something new. I'm sure the pro's do it as well, but they are probably a lot more reluctant to change then the average Joe who believes a new rubber/blade will isntantly fix his/her problems.

Yes pro's usually find what is near perfect for their game and stick with it unless another pro may suggest a slight change to assist a certain aspect. The problem with non pro's is they fall prey to all the hype and bullsh** put out by the manufacturers. Yes I'm guilty as charged just like 99% of us. EJing sure is fun but can get rather expensive and in the end really doesn't help much unless that player has good coaching. Smile

+1 Good to hear, Frogger.  I've been with a Runlox set-up since before Christmas, so I guess that's about 4 mo. for me (changed rubber a little bit, but mostly the same).   I've already purchased one back-up, a ST 85g.  I got about the same weight, but I wanted to try the ST handle, as it looked a little thicker up neat the "bevel-area" of the handle.  It plays identically, but I think I'm still a little bit more comfortable with the FL handle.

Which weight Runlox do you prefer?

When your loops are spinnier, service return is much better and more balls are finding the table. Best combination I have found for a OFF class blade. Many blades in that class have the speed but they are not as forgiving if your shot is a bit off. A bit more dwell with excellent top end speed. My only gripe is the handle which could be bigger but I live with it. With T64fx I get big power with big control...so I guess I can say " I found it". Smile

Thanks. That helps me to know that I didn't find it this year playing with Iolite  LOL

This blade is really fun. Forehand loops were spinny, fast and deep into the table, which is why I chose it, but service/return has never been that bad and recently without training very few balls are actually finding the table especially on opening loops and backhand blocking Shocked

Going back to a thinner off blade for sure with more control in service/return but also power. I hope that MJ will fulfill that criteria for me. But I also leaning to get back to an all-wood blade or a blade with carbon coming as a 3rd ply to have more woody feel then when it comes as 2nd ply.

Nowadays I believe that the only plus-side of EJ-ing is reviving your interest in the game when everything else fails. It's not for everyone but some people can be helped that way...

When I started my EJ quest I was simply looking for a faster and lighter blade. I had the Tibhar Samsonov Premium Contact. It was great blade which I used over 10 years but somehow without speed glue it was too slow and with Tenergy it became too heavy (even though it's not a heavy blade: 80-85gr) After 2 months of search I found it and it was really good: Andro Super Core Carbon Light off (65-70gr) I had a great start of the season with a 100% rate in team games. Then by buying a back-up blade I bought the wrong blade: Andro Super Core Carbon Light OFF+

At the beginning I didn't even notice and kept switching from one to the other. When I finally realized I got confused. I had to choose between and somehow had a better feeling about the off+. What a mistake!!! A few month later I realized I had lack of control. Then a shop was selling TB ZLC for 90€ and after that my EJ madness started...LOL

Now that I have tried  hundreds of blades, trying to find light exemplars etc...I have the weird feeling that I should simply go back to the Andro Super Core Carbon Light off, especially because it seems to be the only way to not have pain in my shoulder. We'll see in a few month but maybe I will come back and say:

Frogger's initial post seems at first an antidote to Ejing. I even thought I should print it and frame it. But it was soon revealed that ejing is a disease un-stopped by declarations of wisdom: "bluefire will not make you a world class player". Yes, that's true, but many of us would like to try it anyhow. We should be asking for Ej treatment-- where are the clinics?

Some serious questions were raised here, and I would like to know how others answer them.

Does ejing hurts or helps the new player? Could it be that it slows down development of certain techniques because of frequent readjustments, but eventually, in the long run, it allows the player to broaden her/his spheres of comfort?

My ejing began when I agreed to review the Rapscallion. I wanted to make sure that I would compare this blade with the largest number of competitors possible. Man, I craved and bled for every new blade. And then, the rubbers, yes, the more the better. I ended up with more equipment than I could ever use.

However, it is true. It slowed me down, and yet, I have a better sense of how a variety of blades and rubbers perform than other players at my level (but what good is this for?). With more blades than hours to play, I could console myself that I have really cool blades even when I don't play as good as I could have.

Leidy's Rapscallion
Charlie's 1Ply & 9-10-9
American Hinoki's WRC Quantum 3-ply
