What is supposed to be the difference between the old and new versions of the Donic Desto F1, F2 F3 rubber? Does the new one play any better or last longer?

Cheers!

I have played both. The new ones just got rid of the oily topsheet problem they had. They play the same...

The embossed marking on the new version is shorter, so the hitting area of the rubber is a bit more. Besides, there was one faulty batch from the old version where it is hard to glue the rubber as it keeps peeling off by itself on the periphery.

The old ones had a slightly softer topsheet which made them more easy to play with. Many people fell in love with them but hated the fact that they would just wear away so easily. Also the edges of the rubber when chipped tend to gradually chip away inwards.

The new Desto's were supposed to address these problems but I can confirm first hand that it isn't any better. Firstly the rubber feels slightly stiffer than the old version( Donic's attempt at making it more durable). It still wears out pretty fast, also it doesn't play as lively as the old one. Worst of all, My brand new F1 bubbled after 2 days with no speedgluing or anything like that.

Hi, Penguin, send a claim to Donic by e-mail. I did this before when I got my faulty F2, and they told me that I could get free replacement from the retailer where I bought it, and I did get a new one.

The F2 and F3 comes with an adhesive cover sheet. Use it and the rubber lasts longer, for up to two months, according to regular users I know. Otherwise the top sheet wears after about two weeks.
