With a little homework here, I've tried to tabulate what Top Ranked players are using just for the sake of comparison:

As of July, 2008 Ranking

Blades
   Butterfly     -    10 (40%)
   DHS            -    3
   Yasaka       -    2
   Nittaku       -    1
   Tibhar        -     1
   Stiga          -     3
   Xiom          -     1
   Donic         -     1
   Avalox       -      1
   Not known -     2

Forehand Rubber
   Butterfly    -   9  (36%)
   DHS          -   10  (40%)
   Tibhar       -    1
   Xiom         -    1
   Friendship -    1
   Donic        -    1
   Not known  -  2

Backhand Rubber
  Butterfly   -  12  (48%)
  NIttaku     -   2
  Tibhar       -   1
  Tsp           -    2
  Stiga        -    1
  Yasaka     -    2
  Donic        -    1
  Not Known     2

It is not a surprise if Butterfly is on the Top of the list
What surprises me more is that nobody uses Chinese made rubbers on their backhand, EVEN THE CHINESE!

What do you think?

It's hard to control blocks with chinese rubber, it's much easier for the ball to be grabbed by the rubber and drop down so it's not a good BH rubber.

Wang Nan probably isn't in the top 500 if you count both genders together. The title says about top 25.

It's funny.

Because during my early playing years (80's). Most of players in our place have chinese rubbers on their backhand. The most popular are Friendship RITCs, PF4, for simple reason that it is cheap and we put the more expensive rubbers (Sriver, Mark V) for the forehand.

That is no longer the case. Though chinese rubbers are great for blocking, it lacks that kick in the long distance where most players needed for modern game, 2 winged loop play.

On the other hand, putting non-chinese, nontacky rubber on the forehand also makes forehand serves, smashes, and power loop not so powerful. Hence, everything changed.

And putting two chinese rubbers together may not always be an ideal combo especially for those whose weight is an issue.

What are the rubbers that Ma Long is using because I notice that sometimes for a smash he will twiddle and use his backhand rubber to smash on the forehand

is Dawei IQ UL Chinese? Surely there's some 729 rubber that's good for the backhand, there are so many choices.

For sure, there are those who use Chinese rubbers BUT WITH JAPANESE SPONGE OTHER TYPE OF SPONGES.

Pls let me know if you know of anyone who uses purely chinese rubbers.
Even Wang Nan I think uses chinese rubber with japanese sponge.

For curiosity's sake, has anyone wondered why? Or anyone interviewed pros for their logical reasoning?

Chinese players are used to using Chinese rubbers. Notice though how almost no pro using inverted has a dramatic difference between forehand and backhand rubbers. I found that making both sides of my blade centred in balance increased my hand speed and reduced my shanked balls. I hypothosise that this is a result of having the swing weight equal on both sides, meaning I have a more consistant reference for where the bat is and how fast it is travelling.
