Kudos to Kreanga, he is like a pocket battleship. Fully deserved to win it. Must be one of the fittest players for his age and this level of play.

Heehee, only a Brit would apply that term nowdays, though he'd have to be German for it to really make sense Wink

Hmmm.......and why would that be then? Go on, enlighten me.

World war 2 German naval vessels famous for sinking British cargo ships?
<---- I was a ww2 buff and had a little flip book of all the planes and ships used.

Fascinating...
Just to clarify then - IMHO, having attended Euro Top 12 myself, KK is relatively small/diminutive in stature, and has heavy 'firepower' in his shots particularly on BH - Hence my reference.

Oh I agree, was just trying to show that I knew the reference beyond the obvious connotation of the phrases. Pocket battleship=lots of firepower in a small package.

Kreanga's BH is crazy, so powerful.
Some incredible rallies too.. watching Kreanga ripping those BH away from the table, probably 6-7 metres back is a sight to behold. I don't think there will be another player with such explosive BH.. ever...

That rally at 9-9 in the 7th is probably the best rally i have ever seen! Kreange is out of the screen most of it... and for Kreange to produce that sort of power and agility is incredible! He had been doing that all game... he wanted this final so bad!

Totally deserved it!
Is it just me, or was that the most stupid camera lense mess up of all time the table looks twice as long as it should, the player the other end looks like a dwarf and the player the near end goes out of shot when off the table. why can't they just show it as it is?

Did you know that out of the 15 (fifteen) last Top-12 finals Vladi was in twelve (12!)? He lost 8 of them though... first one to Gatien in 1997 so no shame in that. Timo was in 5 finals and won them all, Waldner was in 11 finals and won 7 of them, so that's the record.

It's the angle of the camera I believe.. It was too central..

btw, Vladi's tactic in the 5th and 6th sets is interesting, serving lots of BH serves. IMO, Kreanga had much trouble with that BH serves to his FH side a lot, when Kalin returned it with his FH, Vladi had lots of chance to open up strongly and put Kalin on the backfoot.. Only later when Kalin started flipping those serves with his BH, that he got his foot hold again in the match..

horrible camera angle, and its even more difficult when playing kreanga who is so tiny already, and looked like a duende at the other side of the table.

Point of clarification-before 1990 there wasn't a 'Final' as such, it was everyone play everyone, a heck of a lot of matches (ie each player would play 11 matches, and the winner was the one with the best record). Waldner won 4 of his titles under this system-which is somehow even more impressive.

Camera angle is ridiculous ....... Kreanga looks like a Hobbit and I thought I was watching the fourth film from the Lord of the Rings ....... perhaps Peter Jackson was directing Smile
