I love playing with baracuda. Despite being as spinny as Tenergy 05 (some would say even more than T05) it has amazing control. Flat hitting is a dream with baracuda, despite the high spin potential. I have tried T05 and MX-P, neither of them are easy to execute flat hits and drives. I need a rubber faster than baracuda, has similar spin & throw, yet easier to drive and hit flat.

Please do NOT mention Rakza 7. I know it's good but not more than only slightly faster than baracuda, also not as durable as baracuda

I use yasaka goiabao 5 cpen. Baracuda MAX on FH and hexer pips MAX on BH

i don't know, if you think T05/MX-P are not easy to execute drives with, there is hardly anything out there much better than these.

I can only suggest boosting the barracuda at this point.

Thanks for the reply. Being a little more specific - as far as driving goes, MX-P is quite good, T05, not so much. For flat hitting MX-P somewhat difficult to execute but T05 is just weird. Overall, I find MX-P better than T05 for drive n flat hits but not nearly as close to baracuda.

I have considered boosting baracuda, but wouldn't that make tournament play illegal?

Interesting - In my opinion, MX-P is one of the best rubbers for flat hitting as long as it isn't paired with a very fast blade, at which point it becomes uncontrollable. I wonder if you are using a too fast/hard blade. I use a OFF- rated Petr Korbel clone (Adidas Challenge Force) when playing with MX-P.

I used MX-P with joola rossi emotion and goiabao. Isn't the fast blades with low dwell supposed to make flat hitting better, than flexy blades? If I'm not wrong, korbel type blades have lots of flex

Generally, that is true but MX-P is one of the fastest rubbers out there. My experience using the MX-P on composite blades is that the arc becomes very flat. When you hit it right, it feels golden, but consistency goes down.

EL-S may be a good option. The only change I would do to baracuda is having 2-3 degrees harder

Vega Pro, Andro Hexer, Tibhar Genius.  I would start with the second or the third.

Can you compare Baracuda with Hexer, with respect to slow/fast spin, speed, trow angle, weight, and sponge hardness?
I've never tried hexer.

Hexer is lighter, slightly faster and has a slightly lower throw. It plays better from mid distance while Baracuda arguably plays better close to the table. But in any case Hexer Genius and Baracuda often get confused and mistaken for each other but are just birds of the same feather with subtle differences

Whenever people who I have never seen play ask me for a detailed description of a rubber, I am always reluctant to give too much detail because I remember what it was like when I used to describe rubbers with my bad technique. I still do but at least people can see my level and take what they want from that.

A good friend of mine changed Baracuda to T-80, he liked it a lot.

Vega pro looks like something I should try. I've never played with hexer but I have with acuda s1 turbo which I've heard from many people, is similar to hexer. With that I doubt that hexer would have spin comparable to baracuda. S1T that I used was very good with driving and hitting but not so good at serving. I guess there's always a tradeoff

From what I know, T80 is similar to MX-P but with a higher throw. Maybe good for driving but probably not good for flat hits.

@Jim I never heard of palio aeolus. Can you please tell me more about its characteristics?

You might just need to adjust your technique if you are going for a new gen rubber. Since you are used to baracuda, which isn't really a bouncy or fast rubber compared to many other newer rubbers, you might need something similar in terms of rebound, maybe t80fx, tibhar genius, or the genius+ optimum sound (pretty easy for flat hits). Or if nothing else works out, just try barracuda in 2.0 sponge thickness, even though it's a thinner sponge, you might actually get the speed you'r looking for in this.

And vega pro won't feel that similar to baracuda, it's an amazing rubber, but it has a differnt feel though if you can adapt then all Good.

sigma 2 pro maybe? but be warned its hardness is much different than that of barracuda.
http://tabletennis-reviews.com/reference/sponge-hardness-table/
shows that sigma is far closer to a Chinese rubber than a eu rubber.

i havent used vega pro on my own paddle but on a friends. sigma2pro def has more spin. its a lot more controlled than my omega iv pro on the other side. i prefer a faster rubber on backhand hence oivp resides there.

i just couldnt bring myself to like omega v pro. bought 2 sheets, used em. Nothing special tbh. poly this poly that.
