Hi guys, my quest for the perfect blade continues.

I am looking for suggestions about flexible 7 ply blades with a fairly hard outer ply .

A bit of history:

lately I tried a lot of 5-ply blades, with varying degrees of hardness (offensive CR, infinity vps V, dhs pg2), but they all have the same problem: when powerlooping to kill, they flex too much, and the ball goes long, regardless of how much I close the blade. And regardless of hardness. (the only exception is probably yasaka extra offensive, but that does not work for me, too little dwell time, too hard). So I am giving up with 5-ply. I need a 7-ply.

What about the hardness and stiffness? a stiff 7 ply won't do. Why? Because stiff 7-ply are either too slow (e.g. clipper wood) or counterloop goes to net (e.g. clipper CR and CC). So I need a flexible 7-ply. But it can't be too soft, otherwise it is too slow (e.g. pg7). So I need a flexible and hard 7-ply blade.

I happen to have one, namely galaxy u2 (a.k.a. yinhe uranus 2), which seems exacly what I need.

Even in play, it seems perfect: it holds up well at max power, i.e. I don't lose control in powerloop, and it flexes enough for the first loop. (btw, the feeling is not hard, though it has koto outer. very strange).

Great. So what is the problem? The problem is I would like to try something similar. I am looking for suggestions. To repeat, all clippers are too stiff. And it can't be too soft (e.g. pg7). I also tried pg9, but it was too stiff (and probably also too hard). What else can I try? Thanks!

(update: I also tried nittaku redshank, it is great, I need to borrow it to test it better. It has carbon but does not feel like carbon).

Thanks, wow, a 7+2! Won't it be too stiff?

No - I found light BF to be slightly less stiff than Clipper Wood - remember that it is thinner than Barwell or CW.

I would try one of the Andro CS7 blades.  I used the Velocity version but from your description, you might like either the Tour or Pro version.

I stood by xiom for 4 years and Ima stand by them again.
If you can find someone with a hayabusa zxi (zeph with koto outer) , borrow and hit with it.
Some find it too stiff. I find it superb.
Then there is the (less stiff by popularity) vega pro. Limba outer with zeph . Its slightly cheaper and more controlled.
Both are 7 ply. Both have exceptional feel. X carbon + zeph is 1k instead of the cheap 3k in many composite blades.

seguso,
The blade you are looking for does not exist.

Try playing Adidas Challenge Speed if you can borrow one. I found it to have more dwell than a Clipper, very nice control, great on counter loops and drive. Definitely faster than a Clipper and more powerful when you step back from the table.

I second the Yasaka Extra Special. Flex core but hard outer. Very crisp feel.

Thank you guys, so many good suggestions.

update: yesterday I played again with the U2. It is probably the best blade I ever tried. Unbelievable that the best blade I ever tried is a cheap Galaxy blade.

High throw in counterloop, low throw in block. Very flexible, but has very good control at full power.

Only drawback, (probably unavoidable) the first loop on short balls: it is a bit too hard and fast, so in first loop against very short balls, I can't put in all the power I would, because it has a lot of catapult forward. I must get used to brushing more there.

Probably I could try something a bit softer and a bit less flexible. Basically I need a more flexible Clipper CR. I might even drill holes in my clipper CR...

@amonteiro: your suggestion about Donic Persson Powerplay is very tempting. I tried that last year, and now that you make me think of it, it is exactly what I want. But I think it had limba outer, not koto. Strange. I must get my hands on one.

Persson Powerplay has (and had always) koto outer layers.
The old version had a different second veneer (paper foil) than the actual series,
but both versions have koto outer and three inner ayous layers.

Funny ! It is probably the worst I have ever tried. Taste and color are very personal matter...
Now, to answer your question. "flexible and medium hard 7-ply blade ?"
1/ Nexy Lissom
2/ Nittaku Adelie
3/ Avalox P700
These 3 feel very good to me.

Question: is there something like pg7 but with carbon, or carbon-arylate, from DHS?

I am also going to give PG13 another try. Last time it felt unplayable, whereas PG2 felt perfect. Now I am more skilled, PG2 flexes too much, but I don't have PG13 anymore.

There is no Best 7 plywood ,wood production is very hard if manufactured by low quality control like stiga,...
The best manufactured 7 plywood that suits your style is the Nittaku Adelie. Just perfect sweet spot production is beyond any other blade produced so far!!!

Run through their catalogue I see only 5+2 or 7 ply wood so I believe they have not made any in 7+2 structure.

May be I got a poor sample but I found PG13 dull and powerless. Much worse than HH3. Even just bounce a ball on the bare wood shows that. Not that I love HH3 either. I found it powerful but still dull and muffle in feel.
