Ok i have a big piece of musical grade port orford cedar which is identical to japanese hinoki in fact most of your "hinoki" is POC.I have a piece big enough for 10 blades.just this piece cost $325.it is better than the last stuff i used. The last POC i used was kiln dried this is air dried.I plan on making 4 j pens and 6 shake hand blades.Wht thickness do you think i should go with for the shake hand blades as well as the j pens. i also have a good scale now so i will have acurate weights now.any suggestions on head shape/size or handle size or style would be helpful. i don't play shakehand so i need some input. The last blades i made were j pens patterned after the CPL but i will use the more compact kokutaku shape this time to decrease weight but increase the speed.

My buddy had a custom made 6mm 1ply hinoki cpen that he accidentaly broke by removing his rubber!
Don't make 1plies thinner than 8-9mm! For your own good!

It is better to buy at least 9 mm. If you want to take a risk, you can go for 8,5 mm (but there have been two cases where the blades developed crack by themselves). Thinner than 8,5 is not recommendable at all. |

I don't know anything about single ply but I do know they need to be 9mm thick as thinner than 8mm and they will split

They (Nittaku's SCIENTIST?) must have done some kinda R & D to come up wif this thickness or it sounds better, 8.8mm, to lure the Chinese jpen holders out there to take a look @ this AIRULINE. It's not bad, quite cheap I must say n u can actually put rbr on BH for RPB play!
