Hey! I'm a modern defensive player and I'm looking for a fairly priced defensive blade. The pro from "Ping-pong.com" suggested that I'd get the STIGA Tube Defensive WRB and I was just wondering if anyone would be able to post some feedback on this blade.
Thanks!
Jeff

Also, I have the choice between this and 2 other blades. Which one would be better for my defensive play? I need a fairly light blade + no vibration.
STIGA Tube Defensive WRB
andro Fibercomp DEF
andro Blax ALL+

I really didn't like the Tube Defence.. I felt it was too slow/soft/flexy to loop with.. Also I don't like my blades too flexy when chopping, I feel I loose control that way..
A great alternative is the Donic Defplay Senso..
Of the blades you mentioned, the fibercomp def seems like the best choice..

Go with the BIG BOY . . . Dr. Neubauer Special! Well, probably not, but it's a cool blade for pushing and blocking with long pips.

I agree with Schlager. I've tried the Tube Def, and it's just way too slow. also, the dwell time is too high that it's difficult to loop with it effectively. Ditto on the fibercomp; although, the BTY Joo, BTY Def Alpha, Joola Chen, and my current blade the Defplay are great choices for the modern defender. |

Hmm... The BTY Joo blade is my #1 choice, however, price is a factor for me, since I'm just playing in a club once a week. Thus, which of the recommended blades would best match the Joo Se Hyuk, but at a lower price?
andro Fibercomp DEF
DONIC Defplay
Joola Chen
thx guys!

If price is a concern, I have heard a few good things about the LKT Toxic series blades at zeropong.com. One is 3 ply and the other a 5 ply, and both are oversized.

What about the Matsush*ta Pro (non special). Is that any good? has anyone tried it?

Hi liondefence: I have the Toxic5 (have it up for sale here actually), and, although it is faster than the toxic3, I think it is too slow for the modern defensive game--considering that your ideal blade is the BTY Joo! The toxic5 is perhaps even slightly slower than the Stiga Tube. I don't think it is really an ALL/ALL- blade at all (more like a DEF/DEF-), although it is possible that this is only true for my toxic5, as i have yet to try a toxic5 other than the one i have. Of the def blades that you are considering, the Chen Weixing is probably closest to the Joo. |

Hmm... I read some bad reviews on the LKT Toxic series blades. I heard that they're too slow. So, I think I'm either going to get the andro Fibercomp DEF or the BTY Defence II, since they're around the same price. Any last suggestions? Here are some links to their descriptions:

the Def II most certainly has offensive potential--i used to own one! it is popularly believed that chen weixing uses (used?) this blade. i've only had a few fits with the fibercomp, but i find that the def 2 has a better "feel" and is just as fast if not slightly faster. |

Hmm... 5jd33. So would you go for the Joola Chen or the BTY DEF II? In terms of speed.

Yeah, the toxic blades would probably be too slow if you want an all+ blade to play defense with.

how much experience do you have, lion, in terms of defending and chopping. the def II isn't exactly slow, more of an off- speed like the violin/vionello blades. It has great feel with the willow wood, but it is a pretty fast blade so you must have very good chopping technique. It is also kind of heavy (95g). I would say the def II is similar speed (Maybe a little bit slower) than the Joo. If you have a very good bh chop technique and want to attack with the fh like chen, def II is very nice.
The Chen is much slower, probably all- or def+ speedwise. it chops very nice, but is a little slow for counterlooping for outright winners. It is lighter, around 85g, but the head is very large, so the rubbers weigh more. You might want to consider the Matsush!ta Pro (Not special). it is a very nice feeling blade, speedwise about ALL. If has enough oomph to attack, too. The handle is kind of tiny, though. |

that is a good choice. iruiru has a good price, too. other than the weight (because I am such a weakling), I loved the def II. The ball feeling was on par with the Vionello, which is saying something!

Just for more concern for Toxic 5, other than it is slow.. but is there any other negative feedback that is other than speed?
Just curious... isn't that was what the description says on zeropong? supposing it should be a similar product to those really old classic hock blade that is generally use for defensive (so i would imagine it is slow) I actually was consider getting it from Cole last couple days... now I am not so sure |

the toxic 5 is a nice blade. dont expect to be able to counterloop winners with it, but you certainly can counterloop with control. it chops very nice with a low pitched "thonk" sound, very much like the old Hocks. it is worth the 22 bucks just because it is something different. is it good for the modern defence style? yes, if your fh is based on counterlooping with control and spin. no, if you rely on a very aggressive fh to hit winners with.
the toxic 3 is also nice, but you really cant do much of any attack other than the rare pick hit. |

The Valor American Chopper or Valor Stingray are my choices. Not because I make and sell them, but because I have tried: BTY Allure, BTY Defense I, II, Alpha, BTY Retriver, BTY Shibutani and Matsush*ta, Joo Se Hyuk (including one of the blades he actually plays with which is completely different from the retail version), TSP Award def., Nitaku Endless, Euro Chop, and Tibhar Def., several nameless Chinese that had numbers for names, and Hock, and finally I decided to make a blade from the highest quality wood, not cheap plywood like you get on most retail("professional") blades. My blades have the qualities a modern chopper wants: large sweet spot, deadness to make the ball sink into the long pips, but a little springginess that makes attacks vicious particularly when the ball is struck in the sweet spot.
With the Valor American Chopper, or Valor Stingray, you can chop and you can counterloop with speed commesurate to your technique. If you just want to chop FH and BH that is also no problem with this blade.
Some people think my blades are pricey but the wood is personally handpicked and they are handmade. The handles are mahogany wood, a very expensive wood that gives the most comfortable feeling I have experienced in a blade. Most commercial blade handles are made of wood scraps or cheap plywood. I have spared no expense in making these handles and blades.
Cheers,
Alberto Prieto
