i have a really old blade that i am trying to remove the rubber from, i guess it was glued with some factory glue that is not meant to come off easily, the sponge is sticking to the blade, all i can think of to use is goo gone and hope that does the trick, does anyone know if that could damage the blade or have any better suggestions? thanks

When you do get the rubber off, even if you rip it off, use the rubber like sandpaper on the blade. Put the blade on a flat surface so you dont crack it and rub hard with the rubber. It has worked for me on several premades I fixed up for people. Leaves the wood nice and smooth and does not remove any wood.

Pour some acetone between sponge and wood, then start rubbing it into the junction, then slowly try and peel off the sponge.

thanks for the help, i thought of most of those, i thought goo gone would be the best, it really isnt doing much though, i also tried the paraffin oil, i have most of the big stuff off, just annoying thin layers of the sponge still left, it is going to take some work to get it off, however, i took extra care when removing this so i didn't crack the blade, but i decided to take a look at where the handle meets the upper part of the blade and sure enough it is cracked a lil there too, can you guys help with fixing small cracks in this area? thanks again
