Samsonov Alpha is medium soft blade and works well with medium and medium hard rubbers (my experience is that medium soft sponge is the limit). If you use soft sponge, it felt mushy. I just wonder, should normal tensor such as F1, Extend , EGP works well for Alpha, or should I get the harder sponge one, such as F1-HS, Extend HS, Plasma 470, etc.?
Anybody has experience using tensors with Alpha? Thanks. |

just tried impulse speed max sponge f/h on the alpha last night, here are my observations:short game i.e pushes/flicks,serve return very good, probably better than any rubber i have previously tried.looping underspin not so good, small margin for error, shots going into net,i think this rubber has low throw.counterloop:sometimes good lots of spin, sometimes bottoms out....not so good.brush loop:stalls too much.serve:suprisingly good considering no tack on rubber more spin than i expected.smash:good, soft sponge lets blade come into play,i think this could make a good b/h rubber,i know you said soft sponge wouldn`t work on this blade but thought the test might interest you ,i think i need harder tensor with tack

I also found Alpha is not that good with tensors like Joola Green Power 2.0. Looping is ok when you really penetrate the sponge => more flat contact. But blocking is not good, especially no spin balls almost impossible to control with passive shots.
BTW, black JGP is softer (and worse) on Alpha. Red one is playable, but control is still a problem. The harder blades (not necesseraly faster) are better with soft tensors. I like Alpha and play it most of the time with glued Magna 2.0 on FH and glued X-Press on BH, but put tensors on other blades of mine.

Dear Firetack and Yuri,
Thank you for your feedback and comments. Your findings confirm my expectation. I guess we probably need harder sponge tensors. |
