I don't think this kind of serve is feasible for European players. Just look at the first Haruna's picture, if her nose is a little higher, the bat motion will result in a very painful situation. Ouch

There is something in what you say, it does not fit europeans because they are taller, thus they have to crouch lower. I believe that the entire japanese national team is below 160 cm (including their coach lol):D |

I actually like what happens after the serve, where her fingers are in position (notice the thumb and index finger on the same side) to quicky flip the bat so that the pips are then on the backhand.

It's the V-grip. You can get more spin on wiper, and Oji serve with that grip.

Why yes, it is the V-grip. So it is a V-grip serve then flipping into a shakehand during the rally.
