Hi all,
Currently there is a huge price cut for TT equipment from my local shop (year-end promotion) and I have an eye on two blades. So it's a good chance to buy now. I have asked here before about XIOM Stradivarious and XIOM Jazz but now my choice on XIOM side comes down to the Strad. I also have a keen interest on BTY Key Shot Light, tested it briefly and found it to be a joy to use. Plenty of control, a little soft but sometime a little too shaky though. I think it's 3 plywood and arylate. Just wanna hear anybody who has played both this blades and how will you compare them? They are both rated OFF. I like the blade that is not too stiff but sturdy enough with plenty of looping capacity. (Not a fan of TBS btw.) I come from BTY Andrejz Grubba, an ALL+ wood blade. It's slow and has good control, but lack the force to make decisive attack. Any comments is appreciate. I could get each probably a little under 65 USD price marks. Great bargain here :) |

i own a keyshot light and it's a great blade. lots of control, large sweet spot. just be careful not to pair it with a soft rubber like the sriver fx. i tried that but it was too soft, but it worked much better with a regular sriver 2.1 - there are lots of people here who swear by the stradivarius.

If you don't like blades like TBS don't get Stradivarius - they are pretty similar but with minor differences. XS is at least as stiff as TBS but with somewhat better control and balance.
However, if you like A.Grubba (that's my old blade) get Keyshot Light, I guess. Or perhaps Hinoki-5... If you need to buy Xiom then get Control 3 (ALL+) - a lot of control like Grubba but faster. |

Thanks Jim, not that I need to buy Xiom but I heard lots of praise for them and how it plays seem to suit me, (But of course, that needs real hands on experience to make such claim, that's why I've been asking a around lot.)
Unfortunately it's hard to find someone who own any xiom where I play. I could test other more popular blades with ease. Now that I think about it the outer ply little difference (Koto in Stad's) and something softer in Keyshot), could be easily balanced out with my selection of rubbers. I only have two problems with A.Grubba. 1. The handle is way toooo small for my hand, to the point of becoming great annoyance. It gets in the way no matter how I adjust my hand position. I always hurt after a long session with this blade 2. It's too slow and does vibrate. Perhaps I didn't use fast rubbers, but I champion good control over speed and that gives me consistency. I use Cermet and Sriver El, both 1.9. So ideally, anything faster (not carbon-fast), same control, a little stiffer to prevent vibration, and nice comfy handle would fit my bill perfectly. Any other blade recommendation also welcome since I get discount on almost everything. |

i think you'll find the keyshot has great control. it does have a small grip though - i think that's a butterfly problem.

The blade design is nice. Strad ST handle is very comfortable.
