    Posted: 04/18/2009 at 12:23pm
So here's the deal, my friend got a chance to get his hands on two rare blades, Butterfly Keyshot (Original, not the light version) and Butterfly Moonbeam. As far as I know these two are very rare and hard to find. He is lucky to find them in a small local sport store, still new in the original box.
The thing is the price the store owner want for them are not cheap and he can only afford one of the two. He needs some advice, but he cannot find anybody using these blades anymore so he does not know which one suit his game better, maybe we can get some advice here?

So that brings us to the question:
1. If you have the chance to pick one from the two, which one will you choose: The Keyshot? or The Moonbeam?
2. and, Why?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

ps: He is torn between Keyshot/Moonbeam, but he said that the store also has one original Butterfly Viscaria. Is this also a good blade?

I would go with the Keyshot. Lots of top players in my country used to use it.

Wow, that is a good sign if top players use it.. What kind of style of play will fit the Keyshot? Is it for more attacking play or allround play? I can't seem to find a link to the blade rating anywhere.. Confused

It's supposed to be similar to the butterfly TBS. It's for offensive play.

It depends upon playing style to some extent.  Both Moonbeam and Keyshot are for topspin play.  The MB has no flex and a soft feel and the KS has some flex.
MB is quite heavy and will not suit anyone who does not like heavy blades.

All 3 are great blades.

So it's an ALC blade just like the TBS. That is interesting, maybe they discontinued the blade because they move to TBS?

Oh and the price the store owner wants for the Keyshot is roughly the same with the price for a new TBS, do you think it's worth it?

Will the Keyshot work with Chinese rubbers like H3P?

@ dragon kid it's an arylate blade not arylate carbon.

I think it will be better with euro/jap rubber.

So do you guys think the Keyshot is worth it at the price of a new TBS?

It would be a judgement call. The Keyshot is a discontinued blade that was very popular with some players and would have a good resale value with some. Like Beaver MD said, for collecting, (and resale potential) Keyshot all the way. In other words, it is a Keyshot, and nothing else is!

Nittaku has 2 blades that are similar, KVW and KVT. For about have that price 1 of these could be had. The KVT is a little faster, 7 ply but still has flex, good for both spin and hit. The KVW is more spin oriented and probably most like the Keyshot of the 2.

Clearly. That's a ridiculously low price in my opinion.

That is exactly what I told him.. but after reading the inputs from you guys, I am not sure the MB fits me.. I need a softer blade with some flex.. Wink
So maybe he should buy both and keep them for himself.. LOL
