came across this blade. doesn't look like carbon but i might be wrong because i was looking very quickly.

prints on the head says something blah blah blah.... "eruption of a volcano".

irregular handle design/style toward the end of the handle.

is this blade any good? valuable? if yes, how much should i pay for it?

update 13 May 09
decided to give it a go... pictures below, down several posts...

I am almost positive that the blade is all wood.....it is quite fast if I remember correctly.....deffinately doesn't vibrate like a 5-ply...actually feels more like a faster carbon blade in terms of vibration than an all wood blade.

There are 2 different Kazan, the one i had was a remake w/ carbon (only available in penhold). The one you saw is probably all wood and i would assume they play completely different.

It's definitely a rare blade if you're a collector. Value?? it depends on the condition i guess.

I'd pay probably around $70-80 for it. There's just not too much demand for it, despite it being a rare blade.

looks like an old timers destroy you with a short pimple slap style blade.

nah it looks like a sardius and the description says nothing of carbon which is suprising.

it says light and looks like it would be over 90g!

I think the centre ply which is rather large and made of balsa would make the blade pretty light overall. My guess is around 80g.

no made in japan blades use balsa, its only those cheap chinese or whereever made blade that use such fragile materials.

I think since it doesnt say carbon, then there is no carbon and in this picture you can see the "carbon looking" second ply looks brown, so the weight will be between 80-85 grams max, no carbon!

I thought only those cheap chinese manufacturers put fake looking carbon in their blades! shame...

yea definitely not carbon. Or if it's carbon that thick it'd be really really fast.

The dark layers are WALNUT. And they are dark brown...

Holda, it was the only one where i got them... and i saw it by accident too... i asked to use their restroom and on the way back i got to see their storage area with blades... i might cruise around town to see if there's any other...

The central ply is made of balsa I think. This blade would be a monster paired with short pips.

Finally got a chance to weigh the blade properly... It's showing at 89.60 grams.

So to recap:
Ply: 5 ply wood
Composition: Hinoki-Walnut-Balsa-Walnut-Hinoki
Head size: 149x159 mm
Thickness: 8 mm
Weight: 89.60 gr

It's going to take sometime before I get to play with this because there's a few other blades already in line ahead of this blade... Will update it after I get the chance to play with it...

Cheers!
