Hi guys, I need help. I have Avalox BT555 but I am itching to try BT550. Can anybody tell me what characteristics BT550 has?
I am afraid that it will be too soft and too springy. My BT555 is about medium in feel (not too soft nor hard) but it is definitely springy, much more compared to Dicon or OC (all have same construction of limba - spruce - ayous - spruce - limba).
Also what is the average weight? Recent Avalox blades are quite light. For instance, my BT555 is only 81 grams. MyP700 is 86 grams and my BT777 is only 82 grams!!! I always thought that 7-ply would be >90 grams, as the case with my Clipper, Extra 7 and Korbel SK7!!!
Thanks.

BT550 overview from a beginner/intermediate player:
Stupidly easy to loop with.
Soft feeling ply.
And flexible.
Pushes pretty well.
Blocks surprisingly well. Still feels pretty controlled for passive shots. Not a great for smashes.
In the past 5 years I've used LKT Instinct, Donic DOTEC AR.
But during that time I have tried Stiga Allaround Classic, BTY Primorac, Stiga OC, 729 Bomb, Avalox P500 and Yin He K5.
The BT550 became my blade of choice because it is
a) slightly faster than the instinct
b) better feel than the stigas
c) high control
D) ALL OF THE ABOVE
It's a good blade if you play with a closed blade face and put topspin on every shot. It allows controlled attacks out to mid-distance with plenty of spin.

to icontek : why did you change dotec AR. My father are playing with dotec AR (he was trying 10 another blade, but dotec ar definitele the best), for me is also very good, very good control for his speed...
What is your opinion? |

I know one thing about the dotec. It was almost a consensus that they were much faster than marked given each speed type. Many people who ended up trying them decided in the end that they were too fast.
Also it seems like I remember some problems with some of the handles. They were chinese made...prashida had the same blades right?

The DOTEC Waldner AR was good and while I enjoyed the stiffness for over the table play, the BT550 has much more catapult and spin as I step away from the table. The DOTEC AR was definitely was OFF- and not ALL or ALL+. I still have my old main; I sold my backup sometime in the last year. Sorry to res this, but I was looking for more info before I sold my backup BT550. |
