What was going on there in game four with Apolonia and the officials? That seemed to really throw him off

Kenta Matsudaira just beat Suss 4-1, a great tournament for him...

Tiago Apolonia also beat Chen Weixing 4-2.

It's a shame that T2 were not recorded in the quarter finals. The list includes Yang, Xiaoxia, Seung min, and Kenta. All were good matches.

ITTF again dropped the ball - just a few videos, most of them not too interesting. None from Matsudaira, none from Mizutani etc.

yeah, after the epic battle with Ma Lin, everyone was saying he would be in the top 10, but he lost his form and focus. Now, he has cooled off a bit, and he's starting to gain momentum.

I don't really care anymore...he beat Mizutani...it's passed the point of being a fluke at this point, I can admit I was mistaken about him not making real improvement. You beat your own country's best player and a top 10 guy after beating many others...who cares how "strong" it is, he beat a top 10 guy.

towards the end of the Chen Weixing-Tiago Apolonia match, disappointed with his shot, Chen pulled up his shorts to expose his white underwear. Does anyone know if his underwear is ITTF approved?

Chinese grils rule again and again Clap

What a comeback for Yue, I am glad she is on track to 2007 form. I like this girl style of play, she plays off the table more than her teammates, probably influenced by Linghui.

Yang was also great, she is like a worm slowly creeping into her opponent's head and shoulders, using frustraion and exhaustion to wear out thier game. It is really good for the game to see a defender in the final, with another defender, Victoria, just winnig the European crown. I am looking for the time when the chinese push a male defender to the international arena, that would be great.

The only drawback for all chinese affair is thier outfits and haircuts, somebody needs to tell thier coach to hire a stylist.Wink

Thanks

And it's also over for Matsudaira... Tiago Apolonia beat him easily 4-0 (he didn't even get more than 6 points in any of the sets).

Absent minded Kenta loses to Tiago, so as Seung after the third game.Shocked

Well, you can't expect too much action when chinese players are not on the stage. I hope Tiago gives Timo a hard fight.

Apolonia played really smart against kenta... he attacked kenta's FH instead of his BH. He also used a consistent slow spinny topspin instead of aiming for power. This gave kenta a lot of trouble as his FH counterloop is still not there yet. Another smart thing he did was to serve primarily pure underspin/no-spin, and that reduced kenta's ability to produce weird spins in his receive.

Ryu just couldn't maintain his form in the 1st and 3rd games, especially his pushes and BH block. His overall strategy was right, but just lacked the form to execute it. BH block staying close to the table, deep heavy pushes to Boll's BH + short pushes to Boll's FH, and killing Boll's opening loop. Ryu tried to imitate Ma Lin playing Boll, but lacks Ma Lin's skills.

I don't think Apolonia has any chance against Boll. They're just on different levels, in terms of consistency and power and spin.
