I doubt it - unless ITTF has assigned them as their agent in this regard. I think TMS (or whatever name) is the entity that produces and owns the broadcasts and such from itTV. |

I suggest we (all of us separately) email ITTF and ask for clarification.
Why on earth do they offer on demand videos with one hand and with the other they prohibit the non-commercial enthusiasts from doing this EXTREMELY important job of promoting our sport? |

I think they bought the rights just for WTTC 2011.
Its sad to see any youtube video uploaders get wiped out for sure. However you can also understand that making a full video with the best parts does reduce the value of buying the full video. Youtube constantly tells its users to not upload anything you didn't create yourself both when you sign up for an account and when you upload a video. There are work arounds for this however they cant be worked around when the video you upload is only a copy even if chopped highlights. Edited by bozbrisvegas - 05/12/2011 at 10:02pm |

I understand your point, but to me it's all part of the silliness of old media in the internet age. We have a live digital stream with free playback of matches on the ITTV website. It's quite easy to download those videos and share them on online websites. As others have mentioned, all they're doing is driving the videos onto unreachable file sharing sites. And even though they may have the right to remove the videos, I really don't think Reflex Sports will gain any sales from doing so. If anything, they've just created a lot of ill will towards their company.

Does anyone here know how to apply to be a commentator for these ittf events?
Some of the commentating in these events are so bad it makes me frown. I'm bilingual and I pick up everything that the Chinese commentators say and I have better English than all of the official English commentators. I would seriously sign up for the role if I just knew the process. I've been able to secure a few internships at a number of large law firms here in Australia, hopefully I can get a place at a commentator for these events since the bar is set pretty low..... I personally really like Richard Prause's and Michael Maze's commentary because you can actually learn more about tt from listening to their analysis of almost every point in a game. On the other hand, the English guy can be a little irritating sometimes, like when he says "good boy" when Timo Boll or Xu Xin perform a long rally. |

Quite a few actually. I was sifting through some of the videos on ITTV and he was commentating on very many of them. I believe he commentated Oh Sang Eun vs Ma Long. Good stuff. |

If that is Michael Maze commentating on the Oh v Ma game, then Maze sounds a lot older than he is.
Further, although maze is an exceptionally talented player, you should see what the Chinese commentators say about him. I maintain that I am a much better commentator than any of those presented employed by the ITTF. |

It's not Michael MAZE commentating, but Mikael ANDERSSON - a Swedish coach. He is a former Danish national team coach and present ITTF youth development manager (or something like that ).

Yes, that's Maze. The match was quite boring as Ma Long was dominating and Oh was off his game, making many unforced errors, but Maze provided some really knowledgable insights into the tactics and strategy being used by Ma Long and analyzing points. Must be tough to commentate along with the English guy though; it's like he had to keep everything very simple so that he could follow. |

I highly doubt that. Listen to a much younger Maze in this video (that's definitely not a Swedish accent either); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikIC4803q4I&playnext=1&list=PL5988082F19528840 |

Stef is right. The commentator is Mikael Andersson, who speaks with no doubt a Swedish accent. Michael Maze does funny enough speak with a very typical Danish accent. I don't know discuss about in this situation. Are you very familar with Danish and Swedish? If you still mean it is Michael Maze who is commentating the matches, maybe you should watch all the matches from yesterday from table 2. Because they did made a change in the commentator box during the day and they said that Mikael Andersson was going to take over. Edited by Nerix - 05/13/2011 at 4:29am |

I can't seem to find the the round 3 match between Zhang Jike and Cho Eon Rae on the ittf site
If any of you guys have ripped/recorded the full match, I'd very much appreciate if you would upload it?

That's just crazy. I assumed ITTF complained. Why would they shut you down and allow ITTV? It's not like they are the same company. :D |

I like Reflex Sports but I think they are barking up the wrong tree. They are trying to survive in the digital video age and going after youtube highlight creators is not the answer. I have already given them two valid ideas but I have not seen them implement anything. I will state them again in case they are reading:
1. Create a road to the finals DVD. Example: for 2009, when Wang Hao won, they could have made a compilation of not just his matches but also videos of him while he was young, interviews with past coaches, personal struggles, etc. Create a story and not just matches. You know, stuff we don't already see on itTV.
2. Create features. Example: Modern defenders - not only matches but coaching advice, interviews, key matches when they were young, etc. Or maybe Backhand Domination: Greatest Backhand Loopers of Table Tennis. This will have most recently Schlager, Kreanga, and much further back Jonyer, Grubba, etc.
If they want more ideas, just check out the NBA, NFL, NHL, etc. The suggestions I gave will cost more money of course because they will have to buy rights to the interviews and videos when the players were young. But if Reflex wants to survive this digital age and not be a dinosaur, they need to put up more money. They took a good first step by having an online subscription available. The Waldner highlight video was also a step forward, but it was mostly cut and paste. If they want to survive, they actually need to create stuff rather than deliver videos of stuff we already saw live. And please Reflex, leave our youtube guys alone. They will not cut in your sales. TT players are already naturally cheap. Edited by BeaverMD - 05/13/2011 at 12:06pm |

Beaver, I join you there 1000% - those are ideas I applaud and I myself suggested many times doing something like that.
Also - they really need to make a Highlights of an event DVD . One for MS, one for WS, one for Doubles. I understand that they are hesitant about that because those will sell like hot cakes and the regular sets won't BUT a) do they really sell a lot of event DVDs right now? b) price them accordingly - if they sell one DVD in a set of 7-8 for 25-30 dollars and the whole set for $150-170 (who buys those?), then price the Highlights DVD at $45-50 each c) not to mention they could sell a LOT of Highlights DVDs for the past events starting with 1988 Olympics they have tons of materials to produce Highlights DVDs d) how about career DVDs - for European players mostly but not only. How about Persson, Gatien, Grubba, Karlsson, Samsonov, Boll, Kong Linghui, Liu Guoliang, Wang Tao, and many many others And of course their general digital strategy is the same tired mistake that companies made over and over again starting with murdering Napster etc. |
