For those who have owned or used this machine (robo-pong 540), I have a few questions regarding its performance.
How fast are the balls speed wise? They're listed at about 65 mph but I can't tell what that translates to in actual game speed. The few videos I saw didn't appear to have the balls moving too rapidly. The spin generation? This is supposed to be the same machine as 1040 in case anyone has tried that. |

There is a lot of speed and spin - it's a good robot. The real problem is that there is no way to change the spin independent of the speed. You also cannot produce dead balls with this robot.
It's good if you want to practice the same shot over and over but just awful if you're hoping to work on variation of any sort. |

This isn't the same machine as the 1040, the 540 has a few drawbacks. First off, the 1040 has oscillation (head rotates left and right) where as the 540 doesn't. That means if you want a corner shot, you have to physically move/rotate the 540 where as the 1040 adjusts with the turn of a dial. Also, the 1040 can be converted into the 2040 with the recycling net where the 540 can't. I'm looking at getting the 1040 myself. I feel that the extra $100 towards the oscillation and the upgradability is well worth it.

Sorry, by same machine I meant power/speed wise. I guess that's same motor or whatever it uses. |

Speed wise how would it compare to, say a fast slam/loop from a mid level player? |

Please let us know how you like it. I'm still very much on the fence about it since people say that you can't really practice backspin returns because of the single wheel limitation.

I bought the 540 and for a $100 it is a great deal. My kids are pretty new to table tennis and this robot helps groove their shot. I was surprised we have used it as much as we have.

This is the only difference between a 540 and 1040:
In my opinion, it is a better deal to just get the 540 for half the price of a 1040. |

I had a 1040. After being used for a few months, the ball jam becomes more and more frequent. |

Pretty big difference IMO and it would cost you more to upgrade to it later on. Having oscillation would help in footwork where as the 540 would only train one shot at a time and even then, you'd have to physically move the unit to get a different type of shot.

You can get 2 540's and run them at the same time for the price of a 1040

What sense does that make? You'd be taking up nearly 2/3 the width of your table so balls will be bouncing everywhere from hitting the units. You'd have to worry about trying to time two different machines, running multiple lines, multiple control panels, and calibrating two machines. If you're gonna try to justify why the 540 is a better value, at least come up with sensible arguments.

Footwork can be trained when you hit the balls alternately with FH and BH. Sure, not as good as with oscillating robots. But possible in a simple way. |

Does oscillation make the 1040 twice as worthwile as the 540? Maybe... |

I thin for just $200 more than the 1040, the fully programmable 1050 is worth it.

The amount of spin is very unrealistic as someone else said. Even on a slower speed, there's much more spin than even 2000+ loopers usually hit on a shot with similar trajectory. |

the 2000 loopers I've played with were able to produce crazy amounts of spin. Even lower rated players with the right equipment (Tenergy) produce tremendous spin. Don't think Newgy is unrealistic in this regard. It is unrealistic in that it cannot hit a fast no-spin ball.

FYI the control box on the 540 operates at a different voltage to the motors than the 1040, or 2040. Thus the speed and frequency on the 540 are higher on the low end and lower on the high end than the 1040 or 2040, ergo the range of speed and frequency from low to high is narrower than the 1040/2040. All that changes with the 1040/2040 control box.

That looks good. Any idea if he'll do that if you buy a 540 or just the higher end machines? |

I actually found out about it right after I bought my 2050, so I don't know. You could just call Newgy at that number and ask. Quite happy with the 2050, and I would consider it worth the extra money if that is a realistic option.

It seems like all outlets at this point have the 540 at $279 and the 1040 at $349. I am figuring at that price differential that the 1040 is probably a better deal.

I am also figuring for the same price it is probably better to deal directly with Newgy than go through Amazon.
