Anyone know anything about the Tulpe T7008 Arylate Carbon blade? Can't seem to find out too much about it searching.

Well, I guess I'll let you know what it's like after I get it. Just bought this and a T7007 from Fastpaddle.

I think I have one of these. It was the only sample I got from tulpe that seemed particularly nice. Limba outer, nice and thin. Weight was good. Nice blade.

Thanks for the info, Cole. The T7008 I'm getting is 81g. The T7007 is a less expensive blade (probably not as nice), and weighs 83g. We'll see how they play. I have another inexpensive Tulpe blade (a 701) that is good build quality and my son really likes it.

I had a Tulpe blade (702 I think) that I recently sold. It was a good blade. Solid build quality and was sanded nicely, had a comfy grip, and weight was good. So I'm def curious to hear about the arylate carbon blade you ordered, since I trust their quality, this could be a nice alternative to the expensive AC blades (TBS, Maze, etc.). Post a review!

I'll let you know what I think after I get it and play some. I'm not the highest level player and more of a hitter than a looper, but I will be able to compare it to my Galaxy K-4 and my Galaxy K-6. Unfortunately, I haven't ever played with the TBS or the Maze for a direct comparison. But my Galaxy blades are supposed to be clones.

That blade appears to look a lot like BTY Iolite, imo. Is it a clone of that?

I actually like Rasant a lot - great rubber in my opinion. But, coming back to TT now where speed-glue is banned, I feel like Desto F3 BS has the greatest sound of any rubber I've tried (greatest meaning similar to a great speed-glue job). And my only 'dislike' with Desto F3 BS is that it's a bit slow... but I've found that matching it up with a fast blade like Sardius gives me the speed I'm looking for. Honestly, as odd as my current setup may seem, it's easily the closest feeling to "the good 'ol speed-glue feeling" I've had. Okay, enough hi-jacking this thread (my apologies).

Got the blades in the mail today. Kudos to Fastpaddle. Ordered Monday at lunch, got them Wednesday at lunch. Pretty quick.
Anyway, here are a few pics. T7008 side view T7007 side view It's been so long since I bought any blades I forgot how exciting it feels... |

So since we have established that the T7007 is Limba (thanks Cole!), can anyone say for sure what the T7008 is? It appears to perhaps be Ayous based on what I can find in the way of pictures of Ayous. Or is it something else? Here's a picture
Initial impression are that both blades are well made. Maybe not quite Butterfly quality, but not that far off. The flared handles are not Butterfly thin either. A bit beefier. I don't think most people would have any problem with them being too small. The T7008's plies are interesting in that the carbon and the arylate are in two separate layers, not one layer comprised of both. You can see it in the side view pic above. Also, the carbon layer of the T7007 is underneath two layers of wood, which you can see in its side view above. Just bouncing a ball off the T7008, it does have some high pitched carbon ping to it, at least more so than the T7007, which is lower toned and more woody sounding than the T7008. Well, the next thing I need to do is lightly seal both blades so they will be ready for some rubber. Edited by Brainstorm69 - 05/17/2012 at 12:04am |

So no one knows what wood the outer ply of the 7008 is? C-mon, throw a dog a bone, here...
Also, another observation...both blades feel pretty light in the handle...especially the 7008. Although they don't indicate it anywhere, I'm betting the 7008 has a hollow handle and it's possible (although I'm not so sure) the 7007 does, too. One last thing...I happened to read on a post on another thread this morning that limba has a real tendency to splinter (I've never had a limba blade before). Right now, I've only got a light coat on the 7007 blade faces and a heavier coat just along the blade edges. Should I seal it more heavily? BTW, I use rubber cement to glue rubbers, not wbg, if that makes a difference to the sealing question. Edited by Brainstorm69 - 05/18/2012 at 9:15am |

Tuttle (Tulpe) specs the thickness each blade at 6.4m (see below). But my unscientific, eyeball with a metal tape measure, measurement is more like 6.0 for the 7007 and 6.9 for the 7008.

The 7008 looks like koto to me. The 7007 is limba. Or maybe I have it backward, but the blade in the initial post is koto and my pictured blade is limba.

Thanks, Cole. I thought it might be koto at first myself, but then saw some veneers on the net that made it look like it might be ayous instead (although none clear enough that I was sure). But I would expect you to know as many blades as you see.
Do you have any thoughts on how thick I should lay the minwax on the 7007? How thickly is yours sealed? I'd like to get by with as light a seal as possible, but I don't want to splinter the blade when I take rubbers off. Edited by Brainstorm69 - 05/18/2012 at 2:04pm |

I seal everything lightly as possible while still getting a uniform dampening. I use minwax spray on poly now days.
Ayous and koto do look somewhat similar. The indented grains of ayous tend to run a little longer. In koto they have a bit more of a speckled effect. When I see koto I think of an almond shell. Edited by cole_ely - 05/18/2012 at 3:02pm |
