Does anyone know why Joo Se Hyuk got a technical defeat vs Persson?

I would be very much surprised if he was DQ'd on racket control - I am pretty sure he doesn't boost.

I think that he is not disqualified, because they will explicitly write that next to result on ittf's web site. Instead of "Disquailified" it says W.O., which means that probably Joo is injured...

W.O. for walkover typically means forfeit and not disqualified; but it can be used interchangeably.

Joo has been injured these past weeks, so he probably withdrew. W.O. means walkover, i.e. no-show/default, not disqualification.

Some very fun match-ups next!  Persson vs. Fang Bo, Koki Niwa vs. Ma Lin, and another Wang Hao vs. Ryu Seung Min duel.  Can Koki Niwa step it up as he did vs. ML in the Olympics qualifier and defeat what will likely be Ma Lin, Wang Hao, Zhang Jike, and Ma Long in a row to win the championship?  Unlikely...but that'd really be something!

Ishikawa beat Yu Mengyu,  but needed 7 games.  Her next match is against Wu Yang,  very tough match up for her.

Kind of odd that Wang Hao is paired with Zhang Jike in doubles.  Are the Chinese preparing to have those two as the doubles team in Olympics?  You'd think that they'd pair Wang Hao with Ma Long since the two have played together much more often.

Is it just me or do Ma Long and Zhang Jike (ZJK perhaps even moreso) both seem more mortal than usual? Making more errors, seeming less like inhuman machines and more like people.

JSH has a leg injury according to ITTF site

Come on, that was the first round. They're not doing more than necessary.

As for the doubles: Wang Hao / Zhang Jike is definitely an option for London, which means that Ma Long would play 2 singles (if necessary). At the China Open next week they will try Wang Hao / Ma Long.

Saturday's action has started already, itTV is showing Ding vs Feng, good match so far.

Ma Long is in seriuos trouble right now.
Down 2 set to zero.
Almost lost the 3rd set with 10 to 7 behind.
Luckily pulled off, to win the 3rd set.

Now 2 to1 behind. (better than 3 to zero behind.)

Yeah - Ma Long getting killed!
I use light offensive looping equipment (150g-175g) because I have wrist enabled, close to the table strokes.

Now it is 3 to 1, Ma Long is behind.

(Could have been 4 to 0.  Ma Long lucked out on the 3rd set which he was behind at 10 to 7, but pulled off and won.)

Ma Long looked terrible,  so lethargic, no bounce in his play.

Wang Hao really wants the Gold - the amount of weight he has lost is incredible!
