    Posted: 07/31/2012 at 3:41am
Hi guys,  I used to EJing a lot for blades but never for rubbers.  So please help me.

I am looking for modern rubbers (non-Chinese types) which is not tensor type, but more like traditional type.  In the past I have tried JO Gold, Silver, Boost TC, Omega, etc. but don't really ilke them.  That's why I am looking for non-tensor type (non-ESN type).

Everyone seems to use Tenergy 05.  I borrowed my friend's blade with Tenergy 05 on FH.  I can't say I like it or not like it, because the the time is too short to make a conclusion.

What are modern rubbers (non-tensor) that are supposed to be equivalent (whether they are successful or not) to Tenergy 05?

Would Tenzone or 1Q fall into this category?  Razka 7 is a tensor, right?

Thank you.

Tibhar Grip-S Europe Soft would be what you are looking for. It has a very high throw just like T05, loads of spin and good speed. It is very linear so it is slower than T05 in the low and medium gears, but the top gear is faster. It is actually not a soft rubber at all, despite what the name says. A bit harder than T05. But does not require much adjustment from T05. The blocking is different, but active shots work the same.

BTW, Tenzone, Rakza7, and 1Q are all tensors.

Donic Bluefire M1 is close to T05 but it is also a tensor. If you want a linear replacement for T05 that is just a bit slower, Grip-S Soft is it.

this is quite hard... so you do not want chinese or esn rubber, the only rubbers left are japanese rubbers.
Stiga Claibra Lt series are about the only rubbers that come to my mind.
TSP Agrit/Rise/Brio might do the trick. there are not many options for you if you do not want to use ESN or Chinese rubbers

my substitute for T05 for FH are
Tibhar Grip-S
DHS Neo Hurricane 3
RSM Special Platinum T64

Try gold arc 3, similar to tenergy 05. Tin arc for Chinese-euro feel.

I disagree that Tin Arc (37, 2.1mm) feels Chinese-Euro.

More like Chinese-Japanese.

The sponge plays more linear than the ESN Tensors I have tried.

Players who have used Sriver for years had no problem picking up Tin Arc and playing, but many of them despised the ESN Tensor "Bounciness" and sometimes "High Throw" of the super spin ESNs.

I hear Grip-S is rebranded Haifu Blue Whale II. If so, which version is this? Which hardness of sponge? I have BW II, that feels quite hard even after my tuning. My friend has a softer that he picked up in China. Says it's National team.

Grip-S has a softer topsheet than BW2, with same sponge. Grip-S's topsheet has a 50/50 pips ratio, so it is thinner than the BW2 topsheet. Thus, it plays more like a euro/japanese rubber.

Grip-S Europe Soft is like BW2 soft, and Grip-S Europe is like BW2 medium/hard. Definitely get the soft, which is still medium-hard.

For Grip-S i have tried a "training version", probably QC failed, and i can confirm that the normal version is unplayable because of the very hard sponge. Its has the best topsheet i have tried, extremely grippy with some tack. Seems very durable too. Go for the soft version.

I'm using Calibra LT on my forehand and Joola Phenix on my backhand. Both are non-Tensor with a speed glue kind of feel. However, if you do not like Boost TC, I don't think you will like these rubbers. They are faster and demand good contact and feeling when hitting the ball. But they are a great combination if you like counter hitting, mid-court play, and blocking on both forehand and backhand. Topspin on the Calibra is similar to Boost TC, it is just faster. Phoenix is just a great counterhitting, blocking, backhand rubber.
