I did not mention replacing an 'e' by an 'i'; as far as the 's' is concerned, try again Wink.

1. Your top woman player seems to be using quite a fast setup - would you happen to know & share what that is?

2. Eye candy's all great. I'm also very interested in table tennis life in that part of the world the rest of us know so little about. There seem to be many players given that its probably not a very populated town - do many come from far away to play? Everyone seems pretty well coached - do you have coaches on premises and if so, how much is the typical charge there? Is this facility built for table tennis from ground up or was it something else before (like a factory)? Does it keep warm in the winter (must cost a boatload to heat given the outside temperature then). How popular is this game in Siberia? How well do the best Siberian players rank in the country? Would you say this is one of the best Siberian clubs?

Thanks for the videos and looking forward to more info Smile

It's not like Irkutsk is some small country village, well over 500k live there. But yes, nice facilities, regardless. Thumbs Up

1. Blade Andro Carbon light OFF, FH and BH Donic Vario Big Slam

2. Our city is above 500000 people. Coaching is free for schoolchildren and students, after that  usually  it stops and become hobby for playing on weekends. Practically nobody goes to tournaments to central Russia, as it is expensive and they can't afford it. Once or twice a year some strong players from close regions come to play in open region championship. There is no professional club now in the region, but in early 2000 we had one and Alla played there and become three times Russia's champion, due to financial problems club was closed. We have now one very talented young player Grigoriy Tsurikov, 14 years old, he sometimes goes to different tournaments and he enters Russia's top 10. I can put here a video of him playing.
The new table tennis center opened  2011 after reconstruction of an old sporting hall, it has now some financial problems ( you are right about keeping warm) and we are not sure about it's future, but for now it's warm and people can play there (about $5 per hour and a half).

Operating hours from 08.00 till 23.00, there are 17 tables, can't tell about how many people attend as I usually go to other table tennis hall (where topic clip was shot) it's the oldest in the city and close to me, it operates from 08.30 to 19.30 for training schoolchildren (Alla coaches there Nastya-16 and Alina-14), after that for grownups($3 per 1.5 hour, 7 tables there). Also there is table tennis hall in school nr.14 ( 14 tables, Nastyas-18 was coached there).

It is about at the same level of popularity and about same level of official membership as in the USA (per capita).

Main problem is that the annual license costs around 60 dollars with average income about 5 times lower than in the USA, and what is more important there are very few FNTR-rated events (FNTR is Russian TT Federation). If you live outside 3-5 largest cities there might be one FNTR-rated tournament within 200 km of your location per year. Even if you live in, say, St.Petersburg, there would be maybe one or two FNTR-rated tournaments a year which will be accessible to a non-professional club player (meaning no preliminary qualification is necessary).

So a lot of (good) players - who would like to play tournaments - simply see zero sense in buying the license.

Dmitry could probably tell us - how many FNTR-rated tournaments are there within reasonable travel distance from their city, per year.

One tournament per year and for example there will be one just end of January in Kemerovo, but nobody will go from Irkutsk as all expenses lay on players themselves.

Of course not - distance between Kemerovo and Irkutsk is about 1580 km (almost 1000 miles). This is not exactly what I would call a tournament within a driving distance.

I understand - and that is exactly what I was saying. That it just doesn't make any sense for an average (even advanced) player in most of Russia to pay for FNTR license - just for the privilege of having a chance to go to a once-a-year tournament which is held 1000 miles away.

The problem is also that clubs/players cannot by themselves organize and run FNTR-rated tournaments - they have to be officially organized through standard FNTR bureaucratic structures like Regional associations, with local funds, with certified umpires (of course) and other things which are, really, not very easy to do (and get formal FNTR approval) even if you have a couple of enthusiasts willing to commit their time.

Sorry I was wrong, men's team goes to Kemerovo, alas, not the strongest players but those who found money to go. Anyhow we wish them all possible success.

Today we had a tournament and Anastasia inspired me for new video. By the way for the first time she played with Alina Arbatskaya, there was a fight, more experienced Nastya won 3-2.

What do you mean by "fight" exactly? A tough match or some hair pulling? Smile I think Nastya is physically much bigger than Alina so I hope there wasn't anything physical.

Nastya 18 did a great job exploiting lefty Alina's wide FH.  You showed one good BH loop from Alina but I hope she did that more during the match.  She cannot win just by pushing and blocking with the BH.  She needs to develop a Jorg Rosskopf backhand.  But overall, she's doing pretty well for a 14 y/o.  Is she ranked in the country?

BTW, is the first guy with the Li-Ning shirt Mr. Stalmachovich?

Yes, it is him, and he won the tournament. As for Nastya - Alina match, Nastya was loosing 0-2, but managed to win at the end. Alina developed already backhand topspin, I'll try to demonstrate more of her technik in future. She is not ranked for now, mostly plays in Irkutsk.
