I apologize if this question was asked previously.
When should a new ball be used? I only change balls if the ball is broken or becomes very soft. However, in reading another thread - people were complaining about balls becoming shiny too quickly. Do you change the balls if it is too shiny? I was also told - if the label on the ball is too dull - ball needs to be changed. |

You are lucky, my balls never last long enough to get shiny, they are feeble compared to the old 38mm which used to last until there was no print left on the surface.

Some balls get shiny faster than others. Btfly balls (white ones) tend to get break before they get shiny, Nittaku and DHS get shiny before they break. I personally hate shiny balls but not enough to make an issue about it.
You should use a new ball whenever you and your opponent/partner feel like it. If an older ball doesn't bother you, no problem to use it. Also depends on whether you are playing fun matches, serious matches, or drilling, etc. |

some players only will use new ones others don't care if it is any condition
you don't really need to consult a forum to decide when to change a ball If it is a competition then the balls should be new or have only been used for a limited amount of time

Change them when they get a flat spot or crack, they never ever last more than one hour of play
