Thanks yogi for sharing. I lost my dad to dementia 3 years ago. A terrible disease. He was a brilliant mind so very sad to see him slip away like that.

I can't find the article right now, but I remember reading something about how the combination of Table Tennis and Sudoku (I think) exercise the brain in such a way to help put off dementia and similar things.

If he did it was when he was young in the military. He was a big hunting and fishing guy. |

exercising the mind can only be good
part of the attraction of tt is not only the physical aspect, but the mental aspect in the chinese community, many play mah jong, which is a fantastic mind exercise i see many elders who are sharp as a tack, partially, i believe, because they participate in mj on a regular basis :)

Watch the PBS movie "Ping Pong - Never too old for the gold"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRd5wY_5zZo One of the German veterans (women) covered in that movie started playing in her seventies, after recommended to do so while she was undergoing treatment for dementia/senility. She made very good progress, went to the WVTTC in Hohhot, China 2010 and won bronze in 85+ event. |
