After so many years of experience of broadcasting TT matches, don't know why they came up with this new idea - focusing the camera on one side only.

The word "stupid" is not in my vocabulary.  I sure need that word badly to describe this new way of focusing camera.

Two-toned ball (white/orange) will be used in the finals of the CTTSL.

This appears to be credible.

============================================

The camera man sucks, he focused on one side only.
Don't know if this same match video is available from another source (CCTV5?).

Note:  The 3rd match (doubles) is watchable.  Most of the 4th match (Chen Meng vs Hu Limei) is watchable.

Camera man's New invention: The 2nd game of the 2nd match, the whole first 13 points (7:6) that the camera was focused and fixed on the umpire - you just watch the umpire to raise her right or left arm/hand all the time.  Just don't know what that camera man was thinking - people like to watch the match that way?

The very first match between Li Xiaoxia and Hu Limei should be a very good one to watch.
Unfortunately, they dispatched a lousy cameraman.
=======================================

Update:  The cameraman's new invention starts at  38:00.

Two-toned ball (white/orange) will be used in the finals of the CTTSL beginning on August 7.

The link has the picture of the dual-colored balls.

(The text is in Chinese. Don't bother to read it. Just look at the picture of the balls.)
Half is white, the other half is orange and there is a black line separating them.

When use that kind ball, it is much easier to see the spin on the ball.

*** A top player in our club can serve with the same motion - one kind the ball has nothing on it while the other the ball has a tremendous backspin on it.  With this dual-colored ball, his opponents can easily tell which is which.

Now that the regular season is over (XX and Shanghai didn't even make the playoffs), can we see a table like last year of each player's record? Hopefully a complete 2D cross table, so you can also see who their losses were against. Looking at You, Zeio..

Also, I would like to feel your opinion on this: what about splitting this thread, at least next year, separate for men and women. I have to admit, I have no interest on women's table tennis and this mix kind of dilutes what is important to me.

Thanks Zeio.
Do you know how the coefficient for each player to calculate the "seasonal weighted total" is defined ?
And what is the coefficient of the players (maybe not all of them but for the top players) for men and/or women ?

Thanks.

The seasonal weighted total is a new point allotment system first implemented in 2012, replacing the former "dynamic weighted winning percentage".  The official name of the new system is "seasonal relative strength and appearance trade-off rating points".  It is inspired by the ITTF ranking system and extended to include consideration of the players' winning percentage, appearances, strength difference, point weight of singles and doubles etc.

In the new system, each player is allotted a number of starting points.  In 2012, that number is 100.  In 2013, using the data collected in the previous year, that number has been changed to 200 for premium athletes, 130 for first-grade athletes, and 80 for second-grade athletes.

For singles, points are added or deducted according to the rating point table below.  For doubles, the average of the rating points of both players is used for the calculation, and only 1/4 of the rating points are added to or deducted from each player after the match.

Players' Rating Difference Points for Games Won Points for Games Lost
Expected Unexpected Unexpected Expected
≥ 751 0 40 20 0
[501,751) 1 36 18 0.5
[401,501) 2 32 16 1
[301,401) 3 28 14 1.5
[201,301) 4 24 12 2
[151,201) 5 20 10 2.5
[101,151) 6 16 8 3
[51,101) 7 14 7 3.5
[26,51) 8 12 6 4
[1,26) 9 11 5.5 4.5
[0,1) 10 10 5 5

Due to the special conditions of the CTTSL tournament system, every player has a different rate of appearances.  Therefore, on top of the rating points, there is another coefficient, the dynamic weighted factor α, the calculation of which is shown below.

where P is the rate of appearance, calculated by dividing the number of appearances by the maximum possible number of appearances.

Seasonal relative strength and appearance trade-off rating points = relative strength rating points * rate of appearance trade-off

where the rate of appearance trade-off = rate of appearance * dynamic weighted factor

I like ZYL's game. It reminds me a bit of Waldner (no shouts, just my opinion LOL). It looks like it' easy, fluid and all in control.
Liu Shiwen thinks highly of her too. She said: "ZYL is a genius player". (maybe "genius" is a bit too much but I agree, she has a big talent, a great ball feeling, a bit like XX. I remember seeing some very nice drop shots from her after some fishings).

Here is an extract of a great interview of Li Sun, her coach and coach of ZYN and LXX :

Q: We think Zhu Yuling will be your next "grand slam" disciple. Is there any possibility?

Li: She has this potential, too. But it relies on whether she could beat indolence. She is talented, even more talented than Zhang and Li, as she has good perceptions, good sense of the hand feeling, rhythm, space, good concentration, and consciousness of fighting. However she is too far away from working hard. Maybe clever youngsters are all lazy, for they learn so quickly that they are not willing to spend time. Her technique is still not good enough, having a long way to improve, which all depends on bat-after-bat exercise. Only when you refine the basic skills of every bat to perfection, you can stand at the peak. Maybe she is too young to understand this. What I'm doing now is to fight against her shortcomings, but coach can only do a favor beside you. It is you who are supposed to conquer yourself. As fighting in a war, weapon matters though, the determinant of victory is the person using the weapon.

(source: http://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?5016-Li-Sun-talks-about-his-coaching-career)

Here is an example of "her touch" at 9:22 and 21:43  :

Question.

I thought each team is allowed only one player from the Chinese National Team in their lineups? I remember reading something like this but I couldn't find much on the subject

If that's the case, how does Ningbo have both Ma Long and Yan An in their lineup despite both being in the CNT, what about Bayi with Wang Hao and Fan Zhendong?

Edit: I'll answer my own question... teams can have up to 2 players from the CNT, source: http://tabletennista.com/2014/8/shandong-shanghais-performance-was-not-sur/

I remember a slightly different restriction from a couple of years back, when all the players were auctioned off - only one "world champion" per team. (Hao Shuai became very desirable because of that rule!) That may have changed since then though.

Question.

I thought each team is allowed only one player from the Chinese National Team in their lineups? I remember reading something like this but I couldn't find much on the subject

I remember a slightly different restriction from a couple of years back, when all the players were auctioned off - only one "world champion" per team. (Hao Shuai became very desirable because of that rule!) That may have changed since then though.

Because he wasn't a world champ?

Zeio, I remember a table in chinese last year with the results available when you cross the names. Anything like that?
    A     B       C
A  X   1-3   2-3
B 1-3   X    2-3
C 3-0 1-3    X

Somebody posted it last year .. it was really cool to see who Ma Ling and the old warriors actually beat and lost to..
puppy412 : Sorry man, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but I know that more training will make me better, I don't need to come here to figure that out

If you mean the score sheets, they are available on the official site.  Once there, click on the orange button to the far right of the page for a detailed report.

Exactly - best player never to have won a world championship, not even in mixed doubles Cry

The 2 toned ball looks even smaller compared to all white.. The colors dissolve into each other. Maybe use all white, but two black rings(intersecting, horizontal and vertical) instead of one black ring.
